Ivar Jacobson Swedish Computer Science Engineer . He was one of the original developers of the SDL (specification language), which became a standard in 1967 . He invented the sequence diagram and developed the collaboration diagrams . It also mandated the use of transition state diagrams to describe message flows between components.

He was born 2 as September as 1939 , Ystad , Sweden . He completed a doctorate in 1985 at the Royal Technological University of Stockholm , with a thesis on constructor language for large real-time systems. In 1962 he obtained his Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg .
In 1967 he proposed the use of software components in the development of the new generation of controlled telephone switches, which Ericsson was developing. To do this he invented sequence diagrams and developed collaboration diagrams. He also applied state transition diagrams to describe the flow of messages between components.
He thought software development plans needed to be made and was one of the original developers of SDL (specification and description language). In 1967 , SDL became a standard in the telecommunications industry. It also invented use cases as a way to specify functional software requirements.
In April 1987 , he left Ericsson and founded the Objective Systems company . A majority of the company’s shares were acquired by Ericsson in 1991 , and the company was renamed Objectory AB. He developed the OOSE software process at Objectory AB around 1992 .
In October of 1995 Ericsson AB Objectory sold the firm Rational Software , and started working with Grady Booch and James Rumbaugh , first to create the Unified Modeling Language (UML) and later to develop the Rational Unified Process (RUP). In 2003 Rational Software it was acquired by IBM and decided to resign, but stayed with the company until May 2004 , as executive technical consultant.
In mid- 2003 he formed Ivar Jacobson International (IJI), which is an umbrella of the Ivar Jacobson Consulting (IJC) company, which operates on 4 continents and has offices in the UK , USA , Scandinavia , China , Korea. , Singapore and Australia .
In November 2005 , it announced the Essential Unified Process (EssUP), a new “practice” focused on the software development process. It is a new beginning to integrating effective practices from among the three main process fields: Unified Process, Agile Methods, and Maturity Process. Each of them contributes different capabilities: structure, agility and process improvement.
He has described EssUP as “super light and agile”. RUP and IJC have integrated EssUP into Microsoft Visual Studio Team System , and Eclipse .
