Importance of the 7 Wonders of the World

Known more specifically as the 7 Wonders of the Modern World, the following historical constructions have been chosen in a process that began in 2000 and ended in 2007: the pyramid of Chichen Itza in Mexico, the Christ Redeemer of Rio Janeiro in Brazil, the Great Wall in China, Machhu Picchu in Peru, the Petra Gate in Jordan, the Taj Mahal in India and the Colosseum in Italy.

The 7 Wonders of the Modern World are a representative selection of the possibilities of Humanity

To understand the importance of the 7 Wonders of the World we must first remember that there are 7 Wonders of the ancient world in world culture , those that many philosophers, thinkers, travelers and historians left registered as the most impressive constructions of the known world. These first 7 wonders that were once known were: the Pyramid of Giza in Egypt, the Hanging Gardens of Babylon (present-day Iran), the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus in present-day Turkey, the Colossus of Rhodes in Greece, the Lighthouse of Alexandria (Egypt ), the statue of Zeus in Olympia (Greece) and the Temple of Artemis in Ephesus (now Turkey).

Unfortunately, many of these wonders have disappeared and it is nowadays impossible to enjoy, meet or visit them. That is why in the last years of the twentieth century and the first of the twenty-first century, there was a real interest in establishing new 7 Wonders that could be explored throughout Humanity.

The voting process that took place included the direct participation of the people

Unlike what happened with other opportunities, in this case the current world wonders have been chosen by a worldwide available voting process that allowed people from all over the Earth to select their ideal combination of 7 existing locations today via internet .

For that, a pre-selection of 200 options was carried out that included constructions from all parts of the world and from all continents, which did not happen with the wonders of the ancient world (because they belonged to the small world known by the peoples of the north). The final selection was announced in Lisbon in 2007, 7 years after the process began.

These sites have become a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and are significant tourist centers

One of the main functions of this list is to establish and recognize the greatest and most incredible achievements of Humanity. Many of these constructions (even the shortlisted ones that did not remain in the final list) are impressive and know them more thoroughly, detailing elements such as the construction process , the historical context, the architectural style, the function that such construction fulfills, is a part very important that brings us closer to an increasingly complete understanding of our Humanity.
