How to train a parrot in Minecaft

Parrots are rare mobs found in jungle biomes in Minecraft. When killed, they drop feathers, but have no other benefit than a drop item. Given how rare a parrot is, hunting for feathers is not a good idea when chickens are more common and easier to kill. However, parrots can be tamed, and if you find them, you can easily tame them.

Parrots can be tamed, but they are one of those rare mobs that do not have a child version and cannot be bred. They don’t play a significant role in the gameplay, meaning you don’t need a parrot, but you can get one if you want.

Tame a parrot in Minecraft

Parrots are domesticated by feeding them seeds. You can use;

  • Seeds of wheat
  • Melon seeds
  • Pumpkin seeds
  • Beet seed

Wheat seeds are the easiest to obtain; break the grass until you get seeds. You can also harvest fully grown wheat crops and they will produce seeds in addition to wheat.

To obtain melon seeds, you can place a slice of melon on a workbench, or break an adult melon and seeds may fall out. Likewise, to get pumpkin seeds, you can place a pumpkin on the workbench or harvest a fully grown pumpkin. Beet seeds are obtained during harvesting. It is commonly found in agriculture, although it is rare.

When you have seeds (15-20 minimum), you need to find a parrot. Look for a biome in the jungle. Parrots tend to spawn next to other mobs and usually on leaf blocks. Climb the tree and look for them. When you see a parrot, click on it with the “Use” button. Repeat until you see hearts coming from the bird.

Once the parrot is tamed, it will follow you and sit on your shoulder. You can take it off your shoulder by falling asleep or falling from a height. Parrots can fly and do not take damage when falling.

Conclusion

You can tame as many parrots as you like. Two parrots can sit on the player’s shoulders; one parrot per shoulder, and the rest will follow you. Parrots come in the brightest colors. If you have a music box and a parrot, the parrot will dance to the music. Again, this doesn’t do anything for the gameplay, but it’s a fun aspect of the game nonetheless. However, parrots do not attack mobs, they mimic the sounds made by mobs.
