How to show the remaining battery icon in Windows 10

If you use Windows 10 on a laptop, notebook or tablet, you have probably noticed that in the notification area of the taskbar, right next to the clock, the remaining battery level is shown . It is just a small icon, but it is really useful to get an idea of the autonomy of the device.

What happens then if the battery icon disappears ? Where has it gone? And most importantly, can it be recovered? The good news is that it’s probably hidden, so it’s all a matter of locating it and putting it back.

Open the Windows 10 notifications drop-down

Right next to the time, in addition to sound notifications, Internet connection and other icons, the Windows taskbar has a small drop-down represented by a tab or arrow.

If we click on that tab, a panel with more notifications will open, such as the Bluetooth connection, the antivirus and other programs that are running on the PC. This is where the battery notification should be. Simply click on the icon and drag it to the taskbar .

Icon restored and problem fixed!

Check your taskbar settings

If the battery notification does not appear in the notification drop-down menu either, it means that the battery meter has been disabled . To solve it we will have to re-enable the notification from the Windows configuration options.

  • Hover over the Windows taskbar and right-click. Select ” Taskbar Settings.”
  • This will open a new window. Scroll to the “Notification area” options and click on ” Enable or disable system icons.”
  • Among the various icons available, select the one corresponding to ” Energy” and make sure that you leave it in the “On” state.
  • Once this is done, the battery notification will be displayed on the Windows taskbar again. Note: If you don’t see it at first glance, look for it in the notifications drop-down, as we explained a moment ago.

Finally, it is important to mention that if the “Power” icon appears gray and cannot be modified, that is because Windows considers that we are using a desktop computer instead of a laptop or portable computer. Windows only shows the battery level on computers that use a battery, so in this regard there is not much that can be done about it.

If you have a desktop PC, Windows does not allow you to enable the power notification.

It should also be borne in mind that even if we have the battery notification in place again, the icon will not show the percentage of remaining autonomy. Microsoft has removed this information, probably because the data it returns is generally very inaccurate.
