How to reinstall Winsock2

Windows Sockets 2, also called Winsock2, is a tool that helps programmers build applications for the Internet and other networks, thanks to the networking power of Windows. The Winsock2 application is a Windows 95 add-on, but has been a standard feature in newer versions of Windows. If you have a system with Winsock2 installed and there is a problem with the program, it is probably corrupt, it is not missing. Since the file is included in the Windows system, you can reinstall the Winsock2 application from Windows Vista and Windows 7. Instructions
1

Click “Start” and type “cmd” in the search box at the bottom of the menu. When the “cmd.exe” file appears in the search list, right click on the file and select “Run as administrator” from the menu. Then click “Continue” in the window that opens to get to a Windows command prompt.
2

Enter “netsh winsock reset” at the prompt and press “Enter”. A confirmation message appears in the window, followed by a new command prompt.
3

Enter “exit” at the prompt. Press the “Enter” key to exit the window. The Winsock2 of the file is reset.
