How to play Minecraft online with friends

Of course, the best activities available in Minecraft are designed for multiple players. Therefore, it is worth inviting friends with you. But before plunging into the world of unbridled fun, you should decide how and where you can play online. We will tell you about all the available methods, and you will already choose the most suitable one for yourself.

How to play Minecraft on a local network

This method is only suitable for players who are physically close to each other, for example, in the same or neighboring apartments. A local network means several computers interconnected by a LAN cable or via Wi-Fi. So if your teammate is far away from you, move on to the next method. A huge plus in LAN play is that you can do without an internet connection.

IP address setting

First, you need to set up a static IP address so that you don’t have to drive in new numbers every time you connect to the server:

  1. Right-click on the ” Network Connections” icon in the lower right corner of the system tray (it looks like a monitor, and next to it is a network cable), and select ” Open Network and Internet Settings “.
  2. Go to the ” Configuring adapter settings” section.
  3. Select an active connection, right-click on it and go to ” Properties“.
  4. Double click on the ” IP version 4 (TCP / IPv4)” section.
  5. Disable automatic obtaining of an IP address and set all parameters manually: IP address: 168.0.N(where N is any number from 1 to 255), subnet mask:  255.255.255.255 .
  6. The same should be done for all other computers that are connected to the local network. However, the IP addresses do not have to be the same, the last digit must be changed. The subnet mask must be the same everywhere.

Server creation

In the absence of the Internet, there are only two ways to do this: create a dedicated server or use a direct connection to the player. In the first case, the game world will additionally use the resources of your computer, but other players will be able to connect to it at any time, regardless of whether you are in the game at that time. The main condition is that the server itself is running. In the second case, PC resources will not be spent on the server, but cooperative play will be available only when the host is playing. We talked in more detail about the options for creating a server in a separate publication.

When creating a dedicated server, additional configuration is required. You can download different kinds of servers on the net, but they all have a similar configuration. Therefore, this instruction is universal. Follow these steps:

  1. Go to the root folder of the server and open the ” properties” file using notepad.
  2. Find the line ” server-ip = N” and instead of the letter N. enter the IP address similar to your current IP address The last digits must also be different.
  3. Then find the line ” server-port = N” and instead of the letter N, enter a five-digit number (the default is 25565 and may change each time depending on the type of the downloaded server).
  4. Now you can start the server using the batfile . The first launch usually takes a very long time.

Connection

If you created the server through the game client, then no additional configuration is required. Only the connection method will differ. In any case, follow the further instructions:

  1. Start the game and go to the ” Multiplayer” section .
  2. If you created the world using the in-game client, then click ” direct connect“. In the field that appears, enter the IP address of the host that you set a little earlier in the adapter settings. Specify the server port with a colon after the server address. It is written to chat on the host computer immediately after the start of the world. Completely everything should look similar: 168.1.1:5555
  3. If a dedicated server was launched, click on the ” Add” button and also enter the address and port of the server that you specified in the settings of the ” properties ” file .

If everything is done correctly, then either the login to the server will occur, or it will be added to the general list of all servers. Now you know how to p

How to play minecraft on the network: Hamachi

For the second method, we need special software designed to build a VPN and create our own secure network of computers connected via the Internet. First you need to download the software from the official website. It is fully translated into Russian and is free. Registration is required to work with the utility.

Program setting

Follow these steps:

  1. After starting the program, in the main window, click on the ” Create a new network” item .
  2. In the field that appears, enter the network ID, which is just a name by which the network can be found. And also fill in the password field.
  3. At the top of the window is the IP address assigned to your computer. It is assigned once and is a constant and unique set of numbers. It needs to be written down or remembered. It will be required for further connection.

lMinecraft with a friend over a local network. It should be noted that this method is the most difficult of all. So if you don’t succeed and you have access to the Internet, you can try the other methods.

After that, you can connect. Your friend needs to select the ” Connect to an existing network ” item in the main menu and enter the identifier with the password that you specified. A connection should take place. You can check it if you right-click on any computer on the network and select ” Check availability .” The console will open and the package will be exchanged with the selected client. The ping will also be indicated. After that, you can enter the game.

Server connection

It is carried out according to the same scheme indicated in the previous paragraph. You will also need to create either a dedicated server or an in-game server. The only difference is that you need to enter the IP address that was assigned to you in Hamachi (assuming you are connecting directly). When trying to connect to a dedicated server, you need to specify the server IP address assigned to it in the settings of the ” server.properties ” file .

How to play Minecraft on the network: different servers

The easiest way is to find a suitable server on the Internet. We recommend using the services of official developers. They built a service called ” Realms ” into the game . And although it is paid (the service is distributed by subscription and costs  219 rubles  per month  for the opportunity to play three together and  479 rubles  for 10 friends), this method has several significant advantages. For example, you will receive official technical support to help you with any question. Also, the client will be automatically updated to the most current version. You also get built-in protection and cloud saves. In addition, the official servers work stably and without dumps.

If you are not ready to pay 219 rubles for all of the above bonuses, then it remains to look for pirate servers. But we do not recommend doing this, since you are guaranteed to face low server stability, annoying ads and additional paid services. If this does not scare you, then you just have to choose a server, register on the site and download a special launcher.

Common mistakes

  • When trying to connect to the server, the following inscriptions appear: ” Invalid session” and ” Check username “.

Solution : you need to run the game through a special launcher provided by the server developers. You can usually download it for free from their website.

  • When trying to connect to the server, the following is displayed: ” netty.channel.AbstractChannel $ AnnotatedConnectException: Connection time out: no further information

Solution : the network configuration is wrong or the server is not available / does not exist at the moment. Also, sometimes antivirus software or firewall can be the cause. Try turning them off.

  • Immediately after logging into the server, the connection is terminated.

Solution: The network settings are correct, but a third-party utility is interfering with the connection process. Antivirus or firewall can also be involved. On rare occasions, a VPN is the hero of the day.

  • When I try to connect to the server, it appears: ” 14.2: Bad packet ID 26; 1.13.2: Bad packet ID 27; 1.7.10:” or an infinite connection occurs.

Solution : there is a limitation in the game related to the nickname length. It must be shorter than 16 characters.
