How to play Luigi’s Mansion 3 [basic tips]

1. Vacuum everything you can

The vacuum cleaner, or rather the “Poltergust 5000” that Luigi uses to capture ghosts, can be used to vacuum almost any object in the scene. This means that vases, curtains, clothes and sheets can hide secrets, gems, money and even fun Easter eggs .

Often, vacuuming a poster or painting may not reveal much, but as the action does not expend any energy, it costs nothing to try. In addition, there are several secret passages hidden behind curtains and seemingly just decorative objects.

2. The flashlight works against enemies that are not ghosts

The flashlight is another useful weapon in Luigi’s arsenal. It serves to stun the ghosts before capture, and the ultraviolet light reveals the “Boos” and items hidden in the scenarios.

However, it also works against enemies that are not ghosts. Mice, spiders and bats that infest the hotel can attack Luigi from time to time, or, at the very least, hinder him during combat. Aiming and lighting the flashlight on them causes them to “explode”, leaving coins and money in place.

Another tip is that you don’t have to fully charge the flashlight before shooting it at a ghost. In most common enemies, a quick attack is enough to stun them. In stronger or golden ghosts, you can choose to release a full charge of light, but even in these cases, the “blink” also works.

3. Don’t be afraid to spend

In addition to a lot of mess and ghosts, the haunted hotel that King Boo made Luigi stay in is also full of money. Be it in coins, gold bars, banknotes or pearls, for each capture or aspirated item, Luigi receives some amount in his bank account.

The money can then be used to purchase upgrades for the Poltergust 5000, golden bones (which revive Luigi), or useful items that reveal the location of collectibles, gems and special ghosts.

4. Make attack combos between ghosts

The combat in Luigi’s Mansion 3 is much more dynamic than in previous games, although the basic mechanics remain the same: stun the ghost, suck it with the Poltergust 500 until its hit points are zero, and capture it. To make the job easier, Luigi can toss them back and forth while they are trapped in the vacuum cleaner, causing even more damage to the enemy.

Take advantage of this technique to create a combo of attacks against all the ghosts that are nearby. When throwing a ghost trapped in the vacuum cleaner on another, the second is stunned for a few seconds, giving them a chance to capture it or focus the attack on another enemy.

5. Pay attention to the scenery and “strange” objects

The ghosts really have fun in Luigi’s Mansion 3. In addition to harassing Mario’s brother all the time, they also like to disguise themselves as common hotel objects. If you see a phone out of place, an upside-down vase or a toilet on the ceiling, just use the flashlight on them and the ghost will be revealed.

Another tip is to pay attention to the mirrors. Many rooms, bathrooms and other areas of the hotel keep secrets that can only be seen by a closer look. When you find one, pay a little more attention to the reflected scenery to find secret passages, hidden objects, or even ghosts ready to attack.
