Synopsis

The faithful teacher of the Bible, Charles Stanley, teaches readers how to hear and distinguish the voice of God in their lives. After becoming Christians, believers discover the joy of God’s voice, but often the purity and freshness of that initial experience is clouded by the daily grind of life.

Book Review

In Hearing God’s Voice, Dr. Charles Stanley helps readers rediscover how to distinguish God’s voice from all the others around them and how to respond joyfully and obediently.

Dr. Stanley uses personal experiences from his life and ministry to discuss: why God wants to communicate with us, how God captures our attention, how God communicates with us, and how to listen to God and enjoy his presence.

The Bible shows the different methods used by God to speak with his people such as directly with Adam and many others, with Moses the first time in the burning bush, and with Jacob in dreams. But today the surest way we can know that we are definitely hearing God’s voice is through the Word and his indwelling Holy Spirit.

“Just be strong and be very courageous, to take care to do according to all the law that my servant Moses commanded you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, so that you may be successful in all that you undertake. This book of the law will never depart from your mouth, but you will meditate on it day and night, so that you may observe and do according to all that is written in it; because then you will prosper your way, and everything will turn out well for you. ” Joshua 1.7-8

Charles Frazier Stanley clearly mentions in his book that the Bible and the Holy Spirit are the two main ways that God uses to communicate with us today, however, God also speaks to us through people and to whom we should listen the most are those who know us and pray for us, but we must analyze both the message and the messenger. Circumstances as the fourth main way in which God communicates, can sometimes be a tragedy, but God uses that circumstance to speak to us, but we must be very careful with what we think we hear from God, being very clear that the message must be consistent with his Word.

With this short review I want you to encourage yourself to read each page of this book so that you can deepen the knowledge you already have of the truth. Remember that God wants to have an intimate relationship with us and in this book you will be able to understand things like God’s purpose in communicating, the impediments that we place ourselves and the attitude we should have when listening. I highly recommend this book to you as its content is highly based on the Word of God and I am sure you will be able to hear His voice.
