There are many side quests that take you off the beaten track in Nier Replicant, including a fishing minigame that allows you to catch various fish that can then be sold for amounts of gold. However, each fish requires a different type of bait. Here’s how to get puffer fish in Nier’s Replicator if you’re having trouble.
How to fish
As a reminder, let’s quickly describe how fishing works in Nier Replicant.
You can fish at different locations in the game, but only after acquiring the Old Man’s Fishing Rod by the Sea. It is part of the main story, so you surely cannot miss it. Blowfish.
With your route in hand, simply tap the circle to cast and then again to hook it when you notice the rod start to bend. You will have to pull the road in the opposite direction to the fish to reduce its HP. Eventually, once it hits zero, you can hook it up and grab it.
How to get Blowfish in Nier Replicant
You don’t technically need bait to fish in Nier Replicant, but you will need it to catch a blowfish. Specifically, with the Lugworm bait applied to your rod. You will also have to visit a certain place: the beach just to the right of the old fisherman (as opposed to the descent from the pier where it is located).
In our experience, Blowfish has about a 50% chance of spawning instead of sardines. They have more health too, so expect a bit more fish when trying to roll one up.
