How to disable special keys in Windows

Normally our laptops, notebooks and computers come with certain shortcuts and main functions that are easy to access through our keyboard or keyboard, these keys are identified because they lack a letter, they are usually several letters or indicate a function these keys allows you to take shortcuts or actions of some modalities of our laptop.

However, like almost everything in the BIOS of a computer,  it can be altered, modified or deactivated through methods that are quite simple and effective at the time of putting it into practice.

How do I disable special keys in Windows?

There are several ways to deactivate these keys , here we explain the main ones, so that if a method does not work, you can try a different method, many times this happens because the laptop is configured differently or you need Some administrator permission to be able to use a method, for that reason you will see different ways, some simpler and others more different, in order to verify that the function of these keys was effectively disabled.

The way to deactivate or activate these keys is standard from Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 10 , their way of activation and deactivation is the same they are located in the same place.

Basic method

  • Go to the taskbar and look for the Windows button , it is usually in the corner of the screen, it is the Windows logo .
  • A set of options will be displayed, among them, look for the control panel where a set of options and configurations divided into categories will be located,
  • Select the accessibility option, this will open a window on our computer where we will find facilities that Windows will provide us with both mouse and keyboard.
  • Go to the accessibility center where you will find a set of options to enable or disable a special configuration that Windows dedicates to your hardware.
  • You will find there the settings for the mouse, keyboard, screen, tasks and the equipment itself, which are basically options to improve performance or change the way the computer operates,
  • Select the Facilitate use of the keyboard , this is the one that interests us and the one that will provide the option to deactivate these keys.
  • In the Easy use of the keyboard section you will find the option to activate special keys , this box you have to uncheck it in this way you will deactivate these functions.

Quick or standard method

  • Go to the aforementioned accessibility center, once there enter Facilitate use of the Keyboard.
  • Select where it says Configure Special Keys then a set of boxes and functions of the keys that we want to activate or deactivate will appear.
  • We are going to check a box that is in the Keyboard Shortcut section and check the box for Activate Special Keys when the Shift Key is pressed five times.
  • Then close everything and press the shift key five times in a row, this way your keyboard will be configured to deactivate the special keys just by using a button a number of times.

Advantages of having Special Keys activated or deactivated

Many consider it absurd to have them activated because objectively these keys do nothing but hinder certain keyboard modes such as the functions of the F1 to F12 keys.

It can happen when we are playing or working it can become uncomfortable that when we unconsciously press two keys we end up opening a window or deactivating or activating a Windows function in such a way that we end up deconfiguring some things or even limiting our computer of certain functions .

However, a number of users defend that the special keys are quite useful if we can learn the commands that Windows offers us, being of help so that we do not get lost when we want to look for a window, an option or end up in a totally different route to which we want so that it is one of these Windows options that can be very useful .
