How to choose a lunch box for a child

Modern parents constantly take care of their child’s health and proper nutrition, even when he is at school. It’s no secret that the quality of food in school canteens is not always appetizing and tasty, so children often go hungry. However, it is easy to solve the problem – it is enough to buy a high-quality lunch box and put useful and healthy food in it.

Nutritionists advise giving the child simple and healthy food. It can be fruit (apple, banana), dried fruit, a sandwich with meat or fish, cheese, homemade pastries or bread. If a special diet is recommended for your child, you can fill the lunch box with porridge with berries, vegetables, etc. The main thing is that the food does not have a strong smell, and it is convenient to eat it at the desk. Let’s consider the main criteria for choosing a container for a snack between lessons.

Types of lunch boxes

Manufacturers offer a wide range of different lunch boxes, which differ in operational characteristics. One of the most important criteria for choosing a capacity is the material from which it is made.

You can buy for a child:

  • plastic lunch box – a light but fragile structure, the main advantage of which is its low weight (it is important that safe food plastic is used);
  • metal analogues – much heavier and more expensive than plastic options, but often perform the function of a thermos, maintaining the optimal temperature of food for a long time;
  • fabric products – the ceramic container inside the bag can be heated in the microwave, and the bag itself can be used as a small tablecloth.

It is also important to pay attention to the tightness of the container, the convenience of the latch, compactness and ergonomics. In addition, the design of the products should be taken into account: the child should like it.

Another important characteristic is the amount of capacity. For example, small containers holding up to 420 ml of food are suitable for a primary school student. For high school students, it is recommended to pay attention to analogues with a capacity of up to 860 ml: it holds a portion for two snacks, and your child will definitely not remain hungry during the school day.

The main criteria for choosing a lunch box

When choosing a container for school lunches, several aspects and factors should be taken into account:

  1. the convenience and attractiveness of the lunch box;
  2. the quality of the material from which it is made;
  3. tight fit of the lid so that the contents do not spill in the backpack;
  4. ease of opening, so that the child can easily open the lunch box;
  5. the presence of two or three departments, which allow to diversify the schoolboy’s lunch;
  6. the size of the capacity and their correspondence to the child’s appetite (do not buy large lunch boxes if the child does not eat large portions).

Among other things, do not forget about the presence of compact cutlery in the set. You should also buy a water bottle or a thermos for tea, with which the child will drink his lunch.
