Are you afraid that someone can access the settings of your router and are you going to change the data through which you can log in to the control panel of the latter? Have you recently purchased a new modem and would like to change the password associated with it to be able to connect via Wi-Fi? If the answer to these questions is “yes” but you don’t have the faintest idea how to do it, I’m happy to tell you that I have good news for you: you’ve come to the right place, or rather the right guide. In the following lines I will explain how to change the modem password , both in one case and another.
Before you can get alarmed and think about who knows, I want to reassure you immediately about one thing. Although it may seem very difficult to you, it is actually an extremely simple operation to perform and takes only a few minutes of free time. Furthermore, by following my instructions I am sure that you will not have any kind of problem.

Preliminary operations
In order to change the modem password , whether it relates to the administrative panel of the device or to the Wi-Fi network, it is necessary to log in to the device management area. For everything to go smoothly, you need to have a computer, smartphone or tablet connected to the router via Wi-Fi connection or, better yet, via LAN.
Furthermore, you will also need to know the IP address of the router , which is essential to call up its management panel and the password to access the administrative area of the same; generally, this last information is printed on the label placed on the back of the modem or in the user manual of the same. On some devices, the initial password is set immediately after the first access to the management panel.
If you can’t find the password to access the modem, you can try to cope by following the instructions I gave you in my guide dedicated to the topic , or by searching on Google for phrases such as default password [modem brand and model] or default password [ modem NomeOoperatore] .
The ‘ IP address , however, can be easily recovered using PowerShell in Windows , the terminal of MacOS or the menu settings for Android and iOS / iPadOS , as long as the device from which you operate is connected to the router. Let me tell you how.
- Windows: right-click on the Windows Start menu (the flag icon located to the left of the taskbar) and click on the item Windows PowerShell / Windows Terminal located in the menu that appears. Then, issue the command ipconfig, press the Enter key on the keyboard and note the address that appears under the Default Gateway item .
- macOS: open the Mac’s Go> Utilities menu and double-click the Terminal icon to start it. Now, issue the command netstat -nr | grep defaultin the new window that appears on the desktop and press Enter : the information you are looking for is found in the Default item .
- Android: go to the Settings> Network and Internet> Wi-Fi section of the device, press on the gear symbol corresponding to the name of the Wi-Fi network to which you are connected and press on the word Advanced . The router IP is specified under the Gateway entry .
- iPhone / iPad: open the Settings> Wi-Fi menu of the device and touch the button (i) corresponding to the name of the wireless network generated by the modem, to view the IP address of the router.
Once you have obtained the necessary information, open the browser of your choice on the device from which you are going to operate, enter the IP of the router in the address bar of the browser and enter : after a few moments, the home page of the administrative panel of the router, in which you will have to enter the username and / or password recovered previously.
On some devices, you may need to enter a new password right away; on routers not designed for secure access (at least by default), you may immediately find yourself in front of the settings menu. In any case, if you are unable to access the router following the instructions I have given you so far, consult my specific tutorial on the subject, for further clarification.
How to change the password of the TIM HUB modem
Changing the access password for the TIM HUB modem is extremely simple. After completing the login to the device management panel, press on the Admin item located at the top right and select the Profile Settings item from the menu that is proposed to you.
Once in the new page, type the old password (ie the one used so far) in the appropriate field and enter the new access key in the fields Your new password and Repeat your new password . Finally, click on the Change password button and, if necessary, log back into the management panel using the password you just set.
If, on the other hand, you want to change the password of the Wi-Fi network , proceed as follows: locate the Wireless box on the home page of the modem management panel, press on the gear symbol located inside it, enter the Wireless tab and select the wireless network for which to change the access key, using the left sidebar.
At this point, locate the Wireless Password field , type the new network key in it and press the OK button to confirm the settings applied.
Alternatively, you can carry out the same operation using the TIM Modem app , available for Android, iPhone and iPad devices: make sure that the device you are operating from is connected to the TIM Wi-Fi network, start the app in question and press on the modem icon , located at the bottom.
Now, tap on the Wi-Fi item , choose the wireless network of your interest by pressing on the dedicated box, tap on the Wi-Fi Password item and, after typing the new access key in the box called Wi-Fi Password , apply the change by tapping the Proceed button . How to change password to the Wind modem
If the default password to access the WINDTRE modem is not to your liking and you are afraid of not remembering it, you can easily change it from the administrative panel of the device.
So, after logging in to the latter, press the ☰ button located at the top, expand the Maintenance item located in the menu that appears (just press the down arrow corresponding to the option) and, when you reach the next screen, click on the icon located immediately under the heading Edit . Once this is done, type the old password and the new one (twice) in the appropriate fields and press the OK button to confirm everything.
If, on the other hand, you want to change the password of the Wi-Fi network generated by the modem, open the main menu of the device again by pressing the ☰ button, go to the Network> Wireless sections and select the General tab from the screen that appears later.
At this point, remove the check mark from the box located next to the item Generate password automatically (if necessary), type the new network key in the Password field and press the Apply button to save the changes. Remember to do the same for all active Wi-Fi networks. More info here .
How to change the password to the Fastweb modem
Change the access password to FASTGate modem of Fastweb is extremely simple: after entering the device management panel, click on the symbol of the ‘ little man placed at the top right and select the item Change password from the menu.
Now, fill out the proposed form with the requested information: your username (which should be admin ), the current password (to be entered in the Old Password field ) and the new access key twice consecutively (to be typed in the Password and Password confirm ). Finally, click the Apply button to make the changes effective.
To change, instead, the password of the Wi-Fi network , click on the WiFi item located at the top (if you are using a device with a relatively small screen, you must first press on the symbol of the three overlapping diamonds , to make the main menu visible), select the Main Network item and indicate the new password in the appropriate field. Finally, click on the Save changes button to finish. If you have enabled the Split network by band option , remember to change the passkey for the 5 GHz network as well.
Access to the Fastweb NeXXt router , on the other hand, is not protected by a password for a precise company choice, as access must be made through the MyFastweb app, which can be downloaded for free from the Play Store , from the alternative markets for Android and from the App Store . after entering the MyFastweb credentials received at the time of signing the contract (if you no longer remember them or have lost them, you can retrieve them by going to this page and pressing the Recover button located in the MyFastweb, FastwebUP, App and WOW SPace Password box ).
In any case, once you have downloaded the application on your device, enter the credentials of your MyFastweb account in the appropriate fields and tap the Login button to log in. Now, touch the ☰ button located at the top left, reach the NeXXt> My NeXXt menu and press the Network Settings item , in order to access the dedicated section.
We are almost there: now, tap on the Wi-Fi network item , locate the box relating to the wireless network for which to change the access key (if you have activated the United networks option , the box is unique), tap on the Password field and type the new “password” in the appropriate field. How to change Linkem modem password
To change the protection password for the Linkem modem management panel , after logging in to the latter, click on the Settings menu located in the left sidebar and then on the wording Account , attached to the sub-menu that appears.
At this point, type the username and password currently in use, respectively, in the Old User Name and Old Password fields ; Once this is done, enter the new username and password (twice) in the New User Name, New Password and Confirm PASSWORD text boxes and apply the changes by clicking on the appropriate button.
If, on the other hand, you want to change the Wi-Fi network key, go to the WiFi> Modem settings section , click on the type of network for which to change the password (e.g. WiFi 5 GHz ), locate the Security box and enter the new WiFi password in the dedicated text field inside it. Finally, click on the Apply button and that’s it; remember to repeat the operation for all other active networks, if any.
How to change the password on the Vodafone modem
To change the password to access the Vodafone Station control panel , after completing the login, click on the Settings item located at the top and then on the word Password , which appears in the left sidebar. Now, if you have never set a password before and it is the first time you do this, click on the Configure button , type the password to use for future access (twice) and click on the Confirm button .
If, on the other hand, you have already set up an access password and want to change it, click on the Change password button , enter the current password in the appropriate field and enter the new password in the text boxes below. Finally, press the Confirm button and that’s it.
To change the password of the Wi-Fi network, instead, click on the Wi-Fi item located at the top, select the General item from the side menu and locate the Wi-Fi password field on the screen displayed immediately after. At this point, press the Change password button , enter the new network key in the dedicated fields and confirm the changes by pressing the Save and Apply buttons . More info here .
How to change the password on the Fritz Box modem
To change the password of the FRITZ! Box router , after logging in to its administration panel, press the button (⋮) located at the top right and select the Change password item from the menu that appears. Finally, type the new password in the appropriate field and press the Apply button to make the change final.
If, on the other hand, you are interested in changing the password of the Wi-Fi network, press on the Wi-Fi and Security items , press on the Encryption tab and enter the new Wi-Fi network key in the appropriate field.
