How to block Monster Hunter Rise

The Monster Hunter series has rarely allowed players to fixate on a monster they wish to take down. Locking means that the camera will automatically follow the monster you’re trying to attack (and defeat), so you don’t have to worry about moving it with the correct analog stick. In this guide we will explain how to block in Monster Hunter Rise .

How to block Monster Hunter Rise

Lockable players can use two different styles: target camera and focus camera. To select one of these items, press the + button to display the menu, then navigate to “Options”.

Now go to “Camera Mode” and select “Camera Focus” or “Lens”. You can switch between these two modes as you see fit, both in your camp and during a mission.

Here’s how each of these works.

Focus camera

By using the Focus camera, by pressing R3 in the open world, you will be able to choose to focus on one of the main monsters in this level. Press R3 to go through the different monsters.

A small icon in the upper right corner of the screen indicates which monster you are currently focusing on.

Once you find the monster in the world, your camera will always stay fixed on that monster, which means you can focus on the fight.

Aim

The “Target” locking system is a bit different. You still press R3 to block a monster, but the camera isn’t constantly tracking it.

Instead, you will have to press the L button to refocus the camera on the monster whenever you want.

We found this to be a much better option than ‘Focus Camera’ when it comes to other little monsters alongside one of the larger creatures.
