How to activate Face Match in Google Assistant

Google Assistant is one of the most common virtual assistants that we use on a daily basis. Along with it, we probably do not have some type of lock activated on our device, so today we will explain how to activate the facial recognition of the Google Assistant or Face Match.

The Google Assistant is one of the many functions that we find on our Android device natively. However , the device’s customization layer does not always have functions that we do find in stock Android.

Although our terminal does not integrate facial recognition, it is possible to enjoy it in the vast majority of Android terminals thanks to the smartlock. Well, now this option that used to be somewhat hidden within the device options is going to be equipped with artificial intelligence and introduced in the Google Assistant.

Predictably, this facial recognition will end up reaching most terminals, although we still do not know when it will land on them. You can activate Face Match and test it, but it should be noted that it is a function which is only compatible with some smart speakers, such as the Google Nest Max.

The Face Match is very easy to activate and configure, for this we must carry out the following steps:

  • We invoke Google Assistant by holding down the central button of the terminal or saying “ok Google” if we have it activated. If it does not appear, keep in mind that you have to activate Google Assistant so that you can execute this step.
  • Once we have woken up the assistant, we must slide up. Next, we will click on the photograph of our account if we have it in the upper right part.
  • We move to the “Assistant” section.
  • We choose “Face Match”.
  • Click on the button located at the bottom of the screen that shows “Configure Face Match” to activate said functionality.
  • By clicking on the button, the assistant will begin to search for devices compatible with this function, which are mainly those mentioned above, such as Google Nest.
  • Once the device has been detected, it will be possible for us to configure our face from our smartphone.

What is Face Match for?

As we mentioned at the beginning, it is an unlocking by facial recognition, so this is used in the different smart speakers that integrate screen and camera.

The Google Nest are devices that compete directly with the Amazon Echo show , but they tend to be somewhat less well known than Amazon’s screen speakers, so it is likely that Google is trying to promote its smart speakers in this way beyond the Google Home .

Face Match would serve in these devices to be able to differentiate between the different users within the same device, in order to see the calendar, notifications …

We must emphasize that all those users who have been able to complete the process have been in the Google Nest Max and not in other compatible devices. This is not usually a coincidence, since this gadget is one of the latest products launched in the US.

Without a doubt it is an interesting inclusion in Google Assistant since many devices do not bring this type of unlocking with them and in this way it would reach all Android terminals that had the Google Assistant.

It is very likely that the Google Nest Max will end up reaching European territory, since it is not the first speaker in this range to land on our continent.

Now that you know all the details and how to activate Face Match with Google Assistant as long as you have a Google Nest Max, we can see the evolution of the smart device market and all the inclusions that are made in it.
