How to enable 2-Step Verification on Aruba PEC
The first step you need to take to activate 2-Step Verification on Aruba PEC is to launch the Aruba PEC app on your smartphone or tablet. In case you haven’t installed it yet, I remind you that you can download it for free from the Android Play Store or from the iOS App Store using the usual procedure . Also make sure that the unlock PIN and / or a biometric unlocking system (e.g. face or fingerprint recognition) and push notifications are active on your smartphone (as you will need to receive a confirmation code).
Once the application has started, log into your Aruba PEC account using the classic combination of email address and password. Once this is done, a warning should automatically appear inviting you to activate 2-step verification : if so, click on the Activate verification button ; otherwise (if for example you have already installed the app and logged into your PEC account without activating 2-step verification), press the ☰ button, then on the gear icon in the side menu and on your PEC address .
On the next screen, select the Account tab , press on the item 2-step verification and tap the Activate button and pair this device . At this point, if your mobile number has already been entered and verified previously in the Aruba PEC Account Management panel, type the verification code you received via SMS, press the Continue button .
If, on the other hand, you have not yet verified your mobile number, follow the instructions visible on your device to perform this operation: it really takes a few seconds. More info here .
Mission accomplished! You have now activated 2-step verification on your Aruba PEC account and whenever you need to log in to the mailbox, in addition to entering your account password, you will also have to confirm in the app (you will receive an automatic notification). To use your Aruba PEC account in an external e-mail client, however, you will need to generate a dedicated “password for e-mail programs” to be entered in the client instead of the standard one of your Aruba PEC account (I will talk about it more in the next chapter of this guide).
To ensure the highest degree of security possible, you can receive notifications for 2-Step Verification on only one device at a time . If you change your smartphone in the future, you can associate the new phone with Aruba PEC 2-step verification by installing the app on the latter and proceeding just as we have just seen together (except that instead of the “Activate and pair this device” button you will find the ” Pair this device “). How to log in to Aruba PEC with 2-Step Verification enabled
As just pointed out, the activation of the 2-step verification on your Aruba PEC account brings about small practical changes (which however have a huge positive impact on the security of the account) in the procedures for accessing the latter. Let’s find out together.
WebMail e app Aruba PEC
To access the Aruba PEC account from a new browser / device, you will normally need to enter your email address and password combination . After this, you will be asked to confirm on your smartphone , where you will receive a push notification from the Aruba PEC app : to confirm and access your PEC account, you will have to press on the notification, then on the Authorize button and enter the PIN. unlocking the smartphone or using the biometric unlocking system (e.g. face or fingerprint recognition) set on the latter.
If the push notification with the code to be entered does not arrive, wait a few seconds and you will be offered to request a new code or use an alternative authentication method (e.g. code to be received via SMS if you had chosen the OTP code to be generated via the app such as primary option).
E-mail programs
When it comes to e-mail programs such as Microsoft Outlook , Thunderbird and Apple Mail , things are a little different. To use an Aruba PEC account with 2-step verification active in the latter, you need to generate a password for email programs to be used instead of the standard password of the account. Don’t worry, this is a very simple procedure.
All you have to do is connect to this page and log into your Aruba PEC account. Alternatively, from the WebMail PEC Smart version , you can click on the user menu and go to Account Management ). At this point, go to the 2-step verification option in the side menu and click on the Generate password for mail programs button .
In this way you will get the password to use instead of the standard one of your Aruba PEC account in your favorite mail client (the specific password will expire every 3 months and must therefore be changed): please note it in a safe place (perhaps a password manager ) .
For the rest, nothing changes: you can configure Aruba PEC in your email clients and use your certified mail account just as you did before activating 2-step verification. The only precaution to have is to use the password for e-mail programs generated by the PEC panel instead of the standard one of the account in the initial configuration phase of the program. How to disable Aruba PEC 2-Step Verification
If for any reason you want to disable 2-Step Verification for Aruba PEC (I strongly advise against it!), Just proceed from the Aruba PEC app by going to the ☰ menu and selecting the gear icon first and then your Aruba PEC account . Then select the Account tab , go to 2-Step Verification and press Deactivate twice.
Alternatively, you can connect to this page , log into your Aruba PEC account, select the 2-step verification item from the side menu and click the Deactivate button twice in a row.
Note: In case of deactivation of 2-Step Verification, if you use your Aruba PEC account in an e-mail program, you must go to the latter’s settings and re-enter the e-mail password of your Aruba PEC account in place of the password for email programs you used when you had 2-Step Verification turned on.
