Guide to merge two Facebook pages in three simple steps

Have you created two similar Facebook pages and is this causing you problems? Joining them is simple and takes a few minutes.

The reasons why two similar Facebook pages are created can be many, for example, it can be a simple mistake or the birth of two different projects that over time have taken a single direction. The result, however, is always the same: enormous discomfort. With two similar Facebook pages you are forced to publish the same post twice; some friends are subscribed to a page, while others follow the duplicate page; comments and discussions are repeated and you have to answer the same questions and requests several times. Quite a mess, huh? No stress: merging two Facebook pages is quite simple and you don’t have to be a geek to do it.

If you find yourself in one of the two situations I mentioned or you have created two similar Facebook pages for another reason, do not despair! I’ll show you the steps to merge two Facebook pages in minutes.

  1. Requirements needed to merge two Facebook pages
  2. The three steps to merge two Facebook pages
  3. What remains after I merge two pages and what I lose
  4. Convert your personal profile into a page and then merge it with another page

Requirements needed to merge two Facebook pages

To join Facebook pages there must be three essential requirements :

  1. You must be the administrator of both pages;
  2. Their names must be similar;
  3. If the pages have a physical address, that must also match.

If these conditions are not met, Facebook may deny you the merging of the pages , so before continuing make sure you have them. If you are not an administrator of one of the pages, ask whoever is to change your status and make you administrator; if one of the pages has a physical address and the other doesn’t, simply add the same address to the second page. If the names are very different, try to change the name of the page you want to assimilate, so as to bring it closer to the page you want to keep. Be careful though, Facebook’s name change policy for pages is quite strict, if you twist the page name this could alert Facebook and make the process more complicated, also remember that people who follow your page will be warned of the change name.

The three steps to merge two Facebook pages

Well, if you have followed the procedure to meet the three requirements you are now ready to merge the two similar Facebook pages!

You have two possibilities to join two Facebook pages. You can log in to the account with which you are the administrator of the page you want to keep and in the “Settings” panel of your page, in “General”, at the bottom of the list you will find the item “Merge pages”. Click on edit to access the Facebook section that will allow you to merge two pages.

Otherwise, you can speed up the operation to merge two Facebook pages by connecting to the section prepared directly  by clicking here . In this way you will directly access the section dedicated to merging two Facebook pages and you can select the two pages you want to merge.

At this point, Facebook will ask you which page you want to keep and which page you want to be incorporated into the other. Choose to keep, of course, the page that has the most posts, where there has been the most interaction and where there are more comments and videos. For a long time it was mandatory to keep the page with the most likes and lose the one with the least. Now, when you merge two pages, Facebook gives you the option to choose which one to keep.

Once you have made your choice, all you have to do is click on the “Request union” button . Of course, the merging of the two pages doesn’t happen immediately, but it will take several days. At the end of the process, if nothing strange is detected by Facebook, you will get a single Facebook page from the starting two.

What remains after I merge two pages and what I lose

Merging two Facebook pages is an irreversible process . In short, once Facebook has been asked to merge two pages, there is no going back. Therefore, before starting the process it is good that you know what you are going through and what the final result will be after the union :

2020-03-10

  • The page you have decided to keep will remain intact but will also have the “likes” of the second page (and this is generally the real reason to merge two Facebook pages);
  • Users of the page that is deleted will be notified of the migration through a notification;
  • The contents of the page we have decided to incorporate will NOT migrate to the other page. In practice, videos, posts, comments, private messages etc on the second page will be irretrievably lost. Therefore we recommend that you make a backup before proceeding.

Convert your personal profile into a page and then merge it with another page

special case of merging two Facebook pages can occur when you transform your profile into a page, and then merge with another page. The merger process in this case does not change and neither does the requirements necessary for the merger. The only care you must have before starting the union between the two pages is to wait at least two weeks from the conversion of the profile into a page. This time will allow the transformation of your contacts into “Like”, a transformation that the premature merger between the two Facebook pages could interrupt, with the loss of very important contacts and “Likes” acquired over time.

Well, as you can see merging two Facebook pages is not a complicated job , nor for geeks. It only takes five minutes to do this – practically the same time it takes ever t only takes five minutes to do this – practically the same time it takes every time you have to copy and paste the same post on two similar Facebook pages!
