Google Classroom: what it is and how it works

Find out all about Google Meet, the Google platform ideal for carrying out video meetings in smart working or distance learning.

Google Classroom is the free platform designed for students and teachers of schools and universities.

If you’ve never heard of Google’s free online homework management service, read on and find out what Google Classroom is and how it works , a useful and easy-to-use tool to improve the remote teaching experience of pupils and teachers.

What is Google Classroom

Google Classroom  is a free , easy-to-use Google  Apps for Education platform aimed at simplifying the organization of tasks, improving collaboration between pupils and teachers and promoting more effective communication.

Classroom was integrated with G Suite for Education in May 2014 and released in August of that year. The platform was born from the collaboration of Google with educators from all over the country and allows teachers to assign grades and assignments, create courses, send feedback and have all the teaching material at hand wherever they are with just one click, even without a connection. to the Internet.

How Classroom works

To start working with Google Classroom support, you need to go to the platform ‘s homepage  on your desktop or download the Google Classroom app from your mobile device, available for free for iOS and Android.

Anyone can create a class on Google Classroom  but  the service sets different rules for teachers who work in an institution with students. If non-school users are able to use the service directly with their Google account  , teachers must sign up for a G Suite account . Additionally, students  cannot  use their personal accounts in the school environment.

In order for the students to join the “Classroom” and view the assignments and lessons, the teacher must add their students  or provide them with  the code to be able to do it independently. Once teachers and students are connected to each other in Classroom, they will be able to view all the teaching material and related information on the home page.

Google Classroom uses other Google services to integrate the possibilities offered by its platform, such as Google Meet, Google Drive and Docs.

Through Classroom, teachers can monitor their pupils’ progress, viewing all their grades in the dedicated section, so they can give them personalized and constructive advice, understand when to give additional feedback, and share feedback with parents, through email communications containing the results obtained by students, just like in a parent-teacher meeting .

Google Classroom  also allows students to work together on the same assignment, and the teacher to project it on their virtual whiteboard, sharing it with their students and stimulating a discussion, as if they were within the walls of a classroom, transforming the teaching from remote in a more dynamic and stimulating type of teaching for children.

To simplify and improve the experience in Classroom even more, allowing its users to save time and simplify sharing between this and other apps used in the course of teaching, Google Classroom  is compatible with thousands of applications. Check out all applications compatible with Classroom here .

Google has decided to further help teachers who carry out their lessons online by creating a simple and intuitive portal, designed specifically for them: Teach from home .
