Google Calendar on the Web: Good, and Could It Be Better?

Does it get you time and time again, the entry of almanac that events created with the mouse last at least half an hour? Did you get used to iCal’s rough and cute warning window?

Are you looking for something faster, even faster than almanac in your favorite (and of course fastest) browser? Do you want to reduce the number of tabs and windows?

Fortunately, it’s easy, and with a small application, it’s very easy to add any calendar of almanacs to automatically sync with iCal.

Set up Google Calendar iCal sync

To add your Google Calendar calendars to iCal and sync automatically:

  • Choose iCal | Preferences …from the menu in iCal .
  • Go to the Accounts
  • Click +below the accounts
  • Enter the username of your calendar account (like your Gmail address) under email address .
  • Enter your Google Calendar password under Password :.
  • You can leave AccountType : set to Automatic .
    • If you’re having trouble, try Google
  • Click Create.
  • Select the newly added CalDAV account with your Google Calendar account username under Accounts.
  • Go to the Delegationsection .
  • Go to all the additional Google Calendar calendarsyou want to use in iCal.
    • You can close and reopen the Account Preferenceswindow (close iCal | Preferences … ) to see the list.
  • Close the AccountPreferences window .

Set up iCal sync for calendar with collaboration (no longer available)

To access a calendar calendar in iCal with automatic synchronization back and forth:

  • Make sure iCal is not open.
  • Download and start collaborating.
  • Enter your almanac username under Email:.
  • Enter your almanac password under Password:.
  • Click Sign In.
  • Make sure all the calendars you want to add to iCal are checked.
  • Click Add to iCal.
  • Now click on Open iCal(or, of course, close; Collaboration will stop anyway).

You can enable read-only calendars in the partnership preferences.

Set up iCal sync for calendar in iCal 3

To set up Google Calendar iCal sync, follow these steps:

  • Choose iCal | Preferences …from the menu in iCal.
  • Go to the Accounts
  • Click +below the accounts
  • Enter ‘ Google Calendar’ under Description:.
  • Enter your almanac account username(say your Gmail address) under username :.
  • Enter the password of the calendar account under Password :.
  • Expand server options.
  • Type ‘https://www.google.com/calendar/dav/’ (excluding quotes) under Account URL:.
  • Add your almanac username.
  • Add ‘/ user’ (excluding the quotation marks) after the what.
    • Finally, you can find something like “https://www.google.com/calendar/dav/example.user@gmail.com/user” under the account URL :.
  • Click Add.
  • Highlight the newly added account in the accounts
  • Go to the Delegationsection .
  • Make sure all the calendars you want to use are checked in addition to your standard Google Calendar calendar.
  • Close the AccountPreferences window .

Compile a single calendar (even if it’s not your default calendar) in iCal 3

To add a Google Calendar calendar to iCal individually:

  • Choose iCal | Preferences …from the menu in iCal.
  • Go to the Accounts
  • Click +below the accounts
  • Type the calendar’s title under Description:.
  • Enter your almanac account username (say your Gmail address) under username :.
  • Enter the password of the calendar account under Password :.
  • Expand server options.
  • Type ‘https://www.google.com/calendar/dav/’ (excluding quotes) under Account URL:.
  • Open calendarin your browser.
  • Follow the Settingslink .
  • Go to the Calendar
  • Click on the name of the desired calendar.
  • Under Calendar address :,mark the (possibly incomplete) email address to the calendar ID :.
    • The calendar ID can be your Gmail address (for example, the default calendar), or something like “345lsf00sfsasf9mf4knak3i23qa4d9sp1bgc@group.calendar.google.com”.
  • Press Command-C.
  • Go back to the iCal AccountsPreferences window.
  • Make sure the text pointer in the Account URL:field is at the end of “…. / calendar / dav /”.
  • Press Command-V.
  • Add ‘/ user’.
    • The final string below account URL:can be like “https://www.google.com/calendar/dav/345lsf00sfsasf9mf4knak3i23qa4d9sp1bgc@group.calendar.google.com/user”.
  • Click Add.
  • Close the AccountPreferences window .
