Flute Parts

The type of wind music instrument is called a flute . Due to its simple construction, it is considered to be one of the oldest musical instruments in history since it has been present in different ways in all cultures.

The flute can be built in metal or wood. Even so, the flute falls into the category of woodwinds , because its sound production scheme remains unchanged. In this type of musical instrument the sound is caused by the vibration of one or more sections or reeds of the instrument.

It is shaped like a tube, usually metal or wood as explained before, but can also be found in ivory, glass, bone, plastic, porcelain, resins, among others. It consists of a mouthpiece and a few holes, at the edge of the mouthpiece is the bezel through which the sound comes out.

The air passes through this part coming from the artist’s lips, this happens in the Indian bansuri and in the famous transverse or transverse flute. It can also be done by entering an assumed channel in the bezel, as in the recorder. In other cultures there are flutes that are played using the nose.

The flute is played by opening and closing the holes in the tube, this causes the length of the vibrating air to change inside the instrument, defining the height of the sound made. The holes are covered with the fingertips and also with the keys. Basically, in order to carry out an ascending scale, the holes of the tube from the one furthest from the nozzle to the one closest to it are discovered in sequence.

Parts of the flute

The flute is divided into three main parts, which are the head, body, and foot.

Head

In this part there is an embouchure plate that the flutist uses to make sound by blowing through it.

By pressing the head towards the first part of the body and later withdrawing it, the interpreter has the possibility of tuning the flute so that it can obtain a high or low sound. The joint that is part of the head can slide inside the body part.

Foot

The foot part is the last section of the flute. Professional cans have a foot section that makes it possible to play the Si note below the middle C. The flutes that students use commonly have a foot section that only has the possibility to go up to the middle C note. In some occasions and in certain pieces the use of the extended section of the foot is necessary, because they make use of a low note in their musical composition.

Body

This constitutes the main part of the entire flute, here are the notes of most of the flute player’s rank. In it, different components coexist, in which are the keys that each of the notes has and a spike at the end of the body joint that moves inside the foot. The ear is extremely transcendental because it precisely places the intonation of the flute.
