Synopsis

The story is about a family of four sisters and a father and mother who move to Los Angeles after their mother is given the job of principal at a posh private school. The truth is that from this small synopsis I would say that the new generation is very similar to the American series of Beverly Hills, but it is not like that. It is about a girl, Elise, who is very close to her sister.

Starting out in a posh, private school where everyone has famous parents is quite a shock for her. Her sister starts dating a boy whose best friend is the most popular in the whole school. This will make Elise think that he must be a cocky and stupid fool. For this reason, she would rather befriend the normal boy Webster, who seems to be very nice.

Opinion

If this book were a movie, it would be a typical American teen comedy that many would surely classify as bad or indifferent. However, it is a book so surely we would have to define it as a teenage romantic realist novel. It is not a great novel but it is ideal to have a good time reading. In addition to being light and fast to read, it has a lot of dialogue, which means a greater fluidity of the story.

Characteristics of the work

Juvenile literature: it is one that is especially aimed at readers who are experiencing youth, although not exclusively. This concept is often linked to that of children’s literature, enunciated as children’s and young people’s literature, although they have some differentiating characteristics between them. This type of literature has traditionally been intended to provide both entertainment, educational and reading habits.

The themes dealt with in juvenile literature do not differ much from those in adult literature (love, tragedy, war …), although a much more linear treatment is given to both these and the characters, the latter being of little psychological variability. This internalization is minimized by giving more importance to the action than to the psychological characterization of the characters. Likewise, the characters are usually created so that the reading public can identify with them, especially the protagonists. However, some authors have pointed out how convenient this literature, due to its character of experience and the influence it has on readers, has to choose its topics carefully. The search for identity of the protagonist is usually indicated as a generic theme, as well as the identification of the reader with him.
