Evelio Barbaro Crespo Perez. Outstanding Cuban Civil Engineer, he was born on December 4, 1942 in the western province of Matanzas. National Award for Life and Work (2008) from the National Union of Architects and Construction Engineers of Cuba (UNAICC).

Possessor of a wide spectrum of knowledge and outstanding experience in the construction sector. His professional development is closely linked to the Research Unit for the Construction of Matanzas belonging to ENIA – INVESCONS .

Trajectory Synthesis

He began his studies at the age of 15 at the “Enrique Hart Dávalos” Military Civic Technological Institute.

In 1961 he began his working life as a Chemical Technician at the Public Works Laboratory, District No.4 of Matanzas. Later he trained as a Soil Mechanics and Construction Materials Laboratory Technician, by decision of what was then called the National Directorate of the Department of Soil Research and Materials Testing (DISEM).

During the 1962-1963 stage, he worked as a Soil Mechanics and Construction Materials Laboratory Tester, at the same time carrying out technical studies in both specialties.

From 1963 to 1965, he provided services in several works of great importance that were carried out in the provinces: Havana, Matanzas, Cienfuegos and Las Villas.

In the period 1965-1968, he was responsible for DISEM in Matanzas.

Between 1973 and 1981 he studied at the ¨José Antonio Echeverría¨ Higher Polytechnic Institute ( CUJAE ). He obtains the title of Civil Engineer on April 22, 1981.

Later he was appointed Specialist ¨A¨ in Geotechnics and Head of the Programming and Control group at UIC Matanzas , a position he held until August 1984 as he fulfilled an internationalist mission as a technical collaborator in the Republic of Mozambique , then for a period of 18 months. in the People’s Republic of Angola .

In these countries, it provides technical assistance and advice on soil investigations, technical standards, soil mechanics tests and asphalt pavement. He participates in works such as the paving of the Port of Luanda and the reconstruction of the Luena Moxico airport in Angola. His outstanding work during this period made him worthy of satisfactory evaluations and multiple recognitions.

Upon his return from the internationalist mission, he held responsibilities as Head of the Productive Technical Department and Principal Project and Engineering Specialist of the Programming and Control Team at UIC Matanzas itself .

Founding member of the National Union of Architects and Construction Engineers of Cuba in 1983, an organization in which he was vice president and president of its Base section, and member of the provincial executive during the 1987-1989 stage. In addition, he was president of the Soil Mechanics Commission in the Matanzas province of this same organization.

Founder of the Project Front in 1983, a group that coordinated the comprehensive development policy for all the project companies of the different organizations.

Contribution to the training of professionals

He has taught courses for laboratory technicians on topics related to: cement, fine and coarse aggregates, steel, ceramics, asphalt mix, hydraulic concrete dosage, finished block and brick products, as well as soil mechanics and earth movement controls. .

It also contributed to the training of new generations of civil engineers and specialists in engineering research applied to construction through seminars and conferences on soil mechanics, direct and indirect foundations, prefabricated piles, cast in situ by the conventional or Benotto system, tests soil mechanics (triaxial, shear, consolidation and CBR). He also taught on-site testing courses on load testing, pernetrometry, and pressure measurement.
