The Digital Identity (DNI) is an identity document that has a digital version. This digital version is responsible for bringing together several other documents in a single place, in order to facilitate the citizen’s daily life.
Thus, the RG , the Individual Taxpayer Registration (CPF ), birth and marriage certificates and the Voter Title of each citizen can be accessed directly from their smartphone, without bureaucracy.
In this way, the citizen who has the DNI will be able to present this digital document on their smartphone or tablet, replacing the printed versions of all these documents.
Therefore, it will not be necessary to carry these documents on a daily basis, which improves citizen security and facilitates everyday life.
However, the Digital ID will not replace the printed ones, you will still be able to use them and they will still be valid. The idea is to really bring them all together in one place so it’s easier to show the documents.
This initiative is part of a program called National Civil Identification (ICN) , which was created based on Law number 13,444 of 2017, which aims to gradually implement an integrated national system for identifying citizens.
In this process, the Digital Identity will use the citizens’ CPF as a unique identification number, making the process integrated and simpler, since nowadays a person can have several documents, according to their state.
This makes citizen identification more complex and creates an excess of data in the system.
– When can it be used?
The migration process to the Digital Identity already started in March this year, for employees of public bodies.
According to the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), the prediction is that this Digital Identity will be extended to all states in the country by February 2023. The technology is already being adopted in states such as São Paulo and Minas Gerais.
Thus, with the gradual implementation of the system, it is possible to look for flaws, improve the technology and implement improvements throughout the adaptation process.
The proposal is that the Digital Identity in the future will be able to completely replace its physical version, becoming the most practical way of carrying documents.
Therefore, it could be used in any situation where identification is needed.
However, the digital version will only be accepted through the original applications of the government and governmental bodies, disclosed by them, to avoid cases of fraud or forgery of the document.
Thus, any environment or situation that requires proof of the identity or age of the citizen must accept the use of the Digital Identity, through official government applications, which even includes boarding and disembarking on national trips.
The only exception is if it is expressly clear in the environment or situation that the citizen’s physical document is required, in which case the digital document may not be accepted at the moment.
However, the prediction is that the Digital Identity will have full acceptance in the Brazilian territory.
– What will be possible to visualize in the new digital identity?
The Digital Identity (DNI) has the proposal to gather in a single place and digitally all the identification documents of a citizen.
This includes important documents such as:

- Birth certificate;
- Wedding certificate;
- Voter card.
In addition, the digital document must also contain other important information, such as the citizen’s blood type, if he has any major allergies and if he is an organ donor.
Some people carry this information in their wallet, along with physical documents, but this is a small portion of the population.
Therefore, including this information in the citizen’s identification document can be very useful for help and medical care in emergency cases.
