This is the Difference Between Hope, Optimism and Angry

Words of hope, optimism and daydream are words we often hear in our daily lives. But these three words have quite significant differences in meaning. By knowing the difference, we can find out whether we have been growing hope, optimism or dreams. Let’s get started..

According to Shane J Lopez in his book “Making Hope Happen” , hope is a belief in a better future and at the same time there is empowerment to realize this. When viewed from the notion of hope above, there are two very important elements, namely how we see the future and how we feel empowered. This is what distinguishes between Hope, optimism and dreams from the two elements above.

Optimistic, has the first element, which is having high confidence in things that will happen in the future, but we do not have the power to realize this. For example, we are optimistic that the Manchaster United team will be champions in football matches this season. In this case we can have confidence in something that hasn’t happened yet, but we don’t have the power or control to make it happen because we are not players who will play on the actual green grass.

Wishful thinking, it does not have the two elements above. Dreaming is a desire for something that happens in the future, that desire is not based on a strong belief that it will happen, at the same time there is also no power or control in realizing it. For example, we dream of having a luxury home in an elite area with a sports car in it. If the desire itself we are not sure that it can be realized and do not feel they have the power or control to make it happen, then that is what is called wishful thinking.

The three things above, both hope, optimism and dreams have one thing in common, namely the existence of desires. The difference lies in the belief that the belief can be realized or not, and the belief that I can make it happen or not.

The second difference, hope will provide energy for someone to act better than optimism and wishful thinking. In the hope of a plan, a picture will emerge that should be passed, even obstacles that need to be resolved appear. The picture is so clear that one knows exactly the steps that will be taken to immediately realize these expectations.

So if you currently have a desire that might not have been realized, before you wonder why this has not been achieved, try to check first whether the desire includes hope, optimism or just a wishful thinking.

May every one of us always have hope in ourselves because that is the only reason why we are still struggling in this life.
