Dicycloverine (Bentyl)

Bentyl is an oral medicine that works in the gut to relieve spasms. This medicine is not generic.

Indications

Gastrointestinal colic; Irritable bowel syndrome .

Side effects

Increased intraocular pressure; pupil dilation; pain in the eyes; paralysis of visual accommodation; blurred vision; increased heartbeat; palpitation; heartburn; dry mouth;abdominal distension; pain or difficulty swallowing; paralytic ileus; nausea; loss of appetite;loss of taste; vomiting; mental confusion; constipation; Headache; fever; insomnia;nervousness; somnolence; dizziness; urinary difficulties; impotence; weakness; decreased sweating; suppression of lactation; allergic reactions.

Contraindications

Breast-feeding; intestinal atony; ulcerative colitis; child under 6 months old;cardiocirculatory decompensation in acute hemorrhage; obstructive gastrointestinal tract disease; paralytic ileus; toxic megacolon; myasthenia gravis ;urinary obstruction.

Mode of Use

Adults and Teen

  • 10 to 20 mg 3 or 4 times a day.

Children

  • over 2 years: 10 mg 3 or 4 times a day.
  • 6 months to 2 years: 5 to 10 mg, 3 or 4 times a day.
