Diablo 4 Walkthrough – Game Guide.

Prologue. wandering

Twilight on the mountain

After an exciting introductory video and character creation (we’ll talk about classes in a separate guide), you will find yourself in the painfully familiar world of Sanctuary. Your journey begins at Fractured Peaks, which is part of the game’s snowy biome. After waking up in a cave, go in search of shelter, as the storm only intensifies. Open the map and find the golden marker that points to the right place. The city is nearby. Go down the mountain by following the map in the upper right corner. On the way down, you will encounter several opponents. Defeat them to learn about the combat system and dodges.

Keep going until you encounter more enemies (along with destructible items to destroy and collect loot). Go through the gate into a small abandoned city until you hear a stranger scream. Follow the voice to the house on the left and go inside. You will meet Oswen, Vanya and another person who is chatting about demons in the ruins. Vani wants to explain everything, so follow her outside and enter a small tavern. There is also a healer, Stanis, and an armor vendor, Isbel, inside. Vani will ask you to protect the locals from the threat.

Darkness in the deep

Go to Icehowl Ruins. This is a dungeon located north of the abandoned city. Kill various enemies, and when you get to the gate, go inside your first dungeon. First, follow the back door and go through another door on the right. Keep going through the doors until you reach an area with two doors. There is nothing behind the right one, and behind the one in front there will be enemies. Deal with them and go through the next rooms until you see glowing doors on the right. This area contains a healing well.

Continuing along the corridor, you will reach the hellish corridors. First go to the right and deal with the enemies. Once they are done with, move to the next rooms on the left hand side. Here you will find even more enemies. Kill everyone and continue moving to a spacious hall with a lot of enemies. Once defeated, go through the door on the right side of the room to enter another area with more enemies. Go through the door at the back of the room to find another healing well. Move deep into the location, into the room with the headless priest. Interact with him to start the battle against Z’Phal.

Z’Fal, the Scarred Baron

Z’Phal wields a gigantic mace, swinging the weapon rather dexterously and quickly. Dodge as often as possible. Timing your dodge is key, as there should be a rest period between two dodges. In general, you should dodge whenever you see the boss raise his mace. Along with simple up and down mace strikes (a shockwave is generated when hitting the ground), Z’Phal can also perform a sweeping attack. When you see him move his mace arm back over the opposite shoulder, roll under the opposite arm to avoid damage. He will also occasionally shoot flaming projectiles, and at such times it is best to roll so that you are behind the Baron.

More importantly, at some point, Z’Phal will form a pentagram on the ground that will allow him to charge a more powerful attack. He will perform such an attack three times, and you need to focus on the red markers that will appear on the health bar.

Ordinary mobs will also appear. While dealing with them, you can take a break and attack the Baron while he is in the air. After this buff, he will jump into the air and try to land on your hero. Luckily, a circle will appear on the floor indicating where he plans to land. After defeating him, a lot of items will drop. Pick up everything and return to Icehowl Taiga using the nearby rope.

Hero’s return

Return to the city to deliver the good news of the demon’s destruction. Talk to Vani in the tavern and she will express her gratitude. People have no money, but they will give stew and drinks as a reward. Unfortunately, the residents are not what they seem…

Hero’s Reward

Luckily, Josef will save you before the hero is sacrificed and you have to fight your way out. Destroy the enemies in the city, and when everyone is dead, talk to Josef. Then interact with Vanya’s corpse to get the key to the chapel.

Prayers for salvation

You will understand that this is the same person who muttered about demons when visiting the ruins. He will explain that the villagers drugged him just like you, and the answers should be sought in the nearest chapel. You have the key, so head to the chapel. It is located south of your current location. On the spot, go through the doors. There are bloody petals on the floor that you can interact with. This will trigger a cutscene with the priest.

His conversation with the villagers will be interrupted when petals start falling from the ceiling. Lilith appears and you learn the truth about what happened to the villagers. At the end of the cutscene, talk to Josef again. You can ask him what he was doing in the city, and the man will explain that he needed a local priest. We already know about his fate. Ask how you got out of the chapel. He will then tell you to head north to meet with the Hermit, who may be connected to recent events.

Looking for answers

It’s time to go in search of the Hermit, so follow the indicated path in the upper right corner of the screen. As soon as you go outside the gates of the city, you can find the altar of Lilith, which you need to interact with. After that, you will receive a permanent increase in the characteristics of all characters. On the way to the goal, you will encounter many enemies, including skeletons, wargs, spiders, and so on. On the other side of the cave there will be a search area for the Hermit’s hut. After leaving the cave, go north to East Pass. Follow to a more open area. Collect various items, on the left side look for the Hut of the Winds.

Interact with the hut door and go inside. The first thing you’ll see is an interactive bookshelf, but you can also interact with the kettle by the fire, the mortar and pestle near the door, and the jars on the wall to get more information about the house. Head to the bookshelf and interact with it to open a secret room. There are several books on the floor that you can interact with. Inside you will find notes, there is a rusty trap on the floor, and in the far part there is a skull. When interacting with him, a cut-scene will begin, the Hermit will return home. His name is Lorat. Hear the story. You will learn what the villagers have done to you, as well as Lilith’s plans. Then the heroes will go to Kiovashad.

dedication

Follow the path north to Kiovashad using the map in the top right corner. On the way to the goal, you will meet many enemies, including the Fallen, the Fallen Shaman and the Fallen Watcher. When you reach the city, you will notice a guard on the street who will stop the hero. At this point, talk to Lorat. He will explain that you must perform a purification ritual in order to enter Kyovashad. Lorat has already passed it, but you will have to do it yourself. First, you need to take the sacred cedar tablets from the sanctuary and write on them the sin that worries you the most. You can choose between Fear, Anger, Pride, Greed, or none at all.

Then throw the tablet into the brazier nearby. Once everything is done, return to the Guard to go into the city and meet Lorat.

Missing links

Once you find Lorat, he will explain that he has to go to the Dry Steppes to find the Pale Man from the vision, but he needs you to bring something from the merchant in town. Before doing so, re-interact with him and ask additional questions about the city, Inaria, and Lilith.

Go to the local merchant. Say that Lorat sent you, and he will ask for payment for the weapons. Luckily, it only takes 20 gold to get the weapon, so don’t be stingy. He will also give a strange amulet for Lorat, be sure to take it before you leave. Give both items to Lorat and he will tell you that this amulet is a sign of the Horadrim, an ancient group of scientists and mages sworn to protect Sanctuary from demons. This concludes the Diablo 4 prologue.
