Car sanitization: how to do it

In these times of pandemic and ever more evident attention towards the spread of the virus , it is good to remember that among the many precautions that should be replicated there should also be the correct cleaning of the passenger compartment of your car , especially if you are forced to continue to drive for work or other needs, and therefore there is also the intrusion of other people in the same space.

Hence, the growing need, by a greater number of people, to understand how to sanitize the car. It is not enough, in fact, to wash the car as usual. On the other hand, it is legitimate to understand how to do it and, even before that, to ask oneself what is the most useful method to thoroughly sanitize one’s car.

Sanitize the parts you touch most often

The starting point for a correct car sanitation is obviously that of thorough cleaning of all those parts that touch most often.

To do this, and before using the cleaning systems to “attack” the gearbox and steering wheel, it is advisable to wear gloves and a mask.

Therefore, you can dedicate yourself to cleaning those areas that, as we have already anticipated with the title of this paragraph, you end up constantly touching while driving, such as the steering wheel and the gear lever.

Subsequently, you can move on to cleaning the other areas that you touch, albeit less frequently, such as the multimedia system controls, the door panels, the internal and external handles, including the tailgate handle.

Finally, you can proceed with the cleaning of the internal coatings.

What disinfectants to use

Car sanitization is not, as we have already specified, an ” ordinary ” cleaning of one’s car. It follows that it will be necessary to use specific products, generally based on alcohol, appreciated for the possibility of effectively killing germs.

There are also other effective disinfectants based on ethanol (albeit with concentrations not lower than 70%), chlorine or bleach. But beware of the latter, which require a lot of caution, because too high a concentration could ruin the interior.

Better then to use a specific product for each surface. In the event that you do not have suitable products, it is always better to prefer a simple solution of water and soap, which allows you to perform a discreet sanitation of the interior of the car.

Naturally, the caution of using the right products is particularly dedicated if there are leather upholstery in your car: in this case only specific products should be used, which are respectful of this prestigious material, and which are not in capable of causing halos or aging of the treated surface. You must also always make sure to spray the product on the cloth and not directly on the coatings to be treated.

Finally, remember that you must also pay attention to the choice of the right type of cloth to use, and with which to apply the product to sanitize the environment.

Our advice is to use ad hoc cloths, to be used exclusively for this type of cleaning. You can also use a roll of household blotting paper, disposable, or in any case disposable cloths.

In this way, once the operations are finished, you can get rid of any cleaning object, throwing cloths, gloves and a mask in the appropriate waste disposal containers.

It is evident that at the end of this operation it will also be necessary to sanitize your hands, washing them for a few minutes with antibacterial soap.

At the end of this procedure we will have a completely sanitized car, ready to be used consistently and safely.

Remember to repeat this operation frequently, so that you can guarantee the right state of “health” for your vehicle, and the right protection for all its occupants.
