What Can Cause Nausea?

We are a family owned and operated business.

Nausea is an unpleasant feeling of being sick. It is usually felt in the upper abdomen. It varies in intensity and may or may not be followed by vomiting.

In addition to the feeling of nausea itself, it is common for the individual to experience general malaise, lack of desire to eat, desire to stand still and, in some cases, the patient prefers to stay in a specific position, lying or sitting to feel best.

Feeling sick is a common symptom, but that does not mean it should be ignored . The causes of nausea range from benign changes to more serious diseases, being considered a sign that should always be investigated. We have separated some diseases that can cause nausea, among them:

Gastroesophageal reflux disease:

It is a common cause of heartburn and nausea. In this condition, stomach fluids are regurgitated into the esophagus . This can damage or inflame the lining of the esophagus. It is considered a permanent, chronic condition that will likely require treatment over the years to control symptoms.

Diabetes:

As this condition favors that the sugar levels are not unstable, it can cause nausea. Another cause may be the origin of neuropathy, which is the delay in the nerve endings responsible for controlling blood pressure.

Duodenitis:

It is an inflammation of the duodenum (initial portion of the small intestine), which can cause symptoms such as feeling full after meals , feeling sick, lack of appetite, hiccups, among others.

Gastritis:

In addition to constant nausea, gastritis can also cause burning, heartburn and discomfort or pain in the abdomen. Gastritis is an inflammation of the mucosa that covers the inner part of the stomach and can be acute or chronic, with varied causes.

Irritable bowel syndrome:

They are a common problem that causes bloating, nausea, vomiting, heartburn, fatigue and cramps. It is caused by hyperactivity in parts of the intestine, and is usually diagnosed by identifying symptoms and eliminating other stomach and intestinal problems.

Treatment for nausea

Nausea and vomiting can have several causes, so the treatment varies according to the diagnosis established by the doctor. Therefore, only a trained specialist can tell you which medicine is best for you , as well as the correct dosage and duration of treatment.
