Call of Duty: Warzone graphics settings for weak (and not only) PC

Next, we will briefly analyze each graphic setting and give tips on how to increase FPS in the game.

First, let’s go through the “Screen” tab:

  • “Video mode”. The most preferred full screen mode. So the system will be able to allocate maximum resources to the game itself, without maintaining the desktop. However, streamers are better off with “Fullscreen (no border)”, which will allow you to easily move the mouse cursor between two monitors (although performance will be slightly slower).
  • Screen Refresh Rate. Choose the maximum available, be it 6075 , 144 , or 240 hertz .
  • “Screen resolution”. Here you need the native resolution ofyour display. Usually it coincides with the maximum available. So the picture will be the clearest.
  • “Dynamic resolution”. Turn offto prevent the game from lowering the rendering resolution on its own most of the time – this will turn the picture into “soap”.
  • “Preferred Frame Rate for Dynamic Resolution”. If you turned off the previous parameter, then you can set any valuehere . And if enabled, then set 60 or equal to the maximum refresh rate of your screen.
  • Screen Format. It’s best to leave automatic– the game itself will determine the correct format. Otherwise, you can, for example, confuse 16:9 with a slightly less common 16:10, which will distort the aspect ratio of the image.
  • “Frame Synchronization”. This is vertical sync, which in online games (especially: from the 1st person) is better to turn offcompletely . Additionally, we will configure it in the NVIDIA panel in the next chapter.
  • “Max Frame Rate”. Either turn it offor set it to 60 frames . The second option will reduce the load on the processor, which will be useful for older or 4 or less core models.
  • “Gamma”. The standard gamma 2is suitable for the monitor . And for TVs – 2.4 . Also, the latter option may look better when playing in the dark.
  • NVIDIA highlights. It’s best to use the Instant Replay feature in the GeForce Experience panel set to record the last minute. And NVIDIA Highlights, due to the constant analysis of the dynamics on the screen, can significantly reduce performance or lead to friezes. And the moments she writes on her own are far from always successful.
  • “NVIDIA Reflex, low latency.” A useful thing for those who play with vsync or with G-Sync (or FreeSync) enabled. Reduces input latency by causing the processor to process new frames more frequently. For this reason, it is worth enabling only on relatively modern and powerful 6-core or more processors (it is not worth it on any old ones). Also, instead of Reflex, you can try to enable low latency through the NVIDIA panel (more details in the next chapter).

Next are the settings from the “Quality” tab:

  • “Scale of the field of view”. Many people recommend increasing the field of view (FOV) in online games to the maximum, but this will not only reduce performance (more space will be removed into the frame), but can also make the image distorted in perspective. Therefore, we recommend setting this value to 90 degrees– this will be the golden mean in terms of eye coverage and performance.
  • “Field of view of the sight.” Set to “Dependent” so that the field of view switches correctly when entering the scope.
  • “Camera swing”. Can be lowered to a minimumto make it easier to track and target nearby enemies while running.
  • “Rendering Resolution”. You should not set it below 100so as not to degrade the entire rendering at once. And if you play on a relatively powerful PC, then you can set 120 or more – this will significantly improve the clarity in the distance.
  • “Display quality”. Lowdisplay quality will greatly improve the smoothness of footage when video memory is low (4 GB or less). And if your graphics card has enough VRAM (6 GB or more), then you can set the quality to medium (it’s more correct to call it standard).
  • Texture resolution. For high qualitytextures, you need at least 6 gigabytes of video memory. If you have less, then reduce to medium or even low.
  • “Anisotropic Filtering”. Set the qualityto medium if you have an outdated video card. And if relatively modern – high .
  • “Particle Quality”. The number of particles in the effects of explosions, shots, sparks and other special effects. Can be lowered so that FPS sags less during gunfights.
  • “Bullet tracks and drawings”. Decals that create flat “holes” from bullets and graphics on surfaces. In especially large-scale battles, it can reduce FPS, but this rarely happens in the royal battle. Leave it on.
  • “Tessellation”. Responsible for detailing static surfaces like the ground. The decrease in FPS was only seen on older video cards (before 2014), so many can leave tessellation at maximum.
  • “Dismemberment and Blood”. It does not really affect performance, rather, the cruelty of what is happening on the screen. Customize based on personal preference.
  • “Texture mapping on demand”. Enabling it will slightly reduce the size of the game folder. This is useful for single games, but it’s better to turn it off in network games so as not to strain the memory bus once again.
  • “Reinstalling Shaders”. If at the top of the screen in the main menu you see an endless installation of shaders, then you can restart it with this button to solve the problem.
  • “FILMIC intensity”. It’s best to leave the default value of 00to avoid image issues.
  • “Grain”. The film effect, which can interfere with looking at enemies in the distance or just distract during online matches, disable(set the value to 00 ).
  • NVIDIA DLSS. The game still does not implement neural network upscaling very well. It noticeably “soaps” the image and increases the load on the processor – it’s better to turn it off.
  • “Smoothing”. On older video cards, SMAA 1X (or completely off) is better, and on relatively modern ones, FILMIC SMAA T2X. In general, it does not affect performance very much. However, the latter option gives a clearer image.
  • “Depth of field”. A beautiful cinematic effect that blurs distant plans. Might be appropriate in a single player campaign, but definitely not in a multiplayer match – turn it off.
  • “Global Speed Effect”. It can interfere with viewing enemies when you rotate the camera – turn it off.
  • “Weapon speed effect”. It does not interfere and looks beautiful – turnit on .
  • “Shadow map resolution”. High-quality shading in the game can only be obtained by turning on ray tracing. And here only the resolution of the shadows is adjusted. Medium qualitylooks good and will free up a couple of FPS – put it on.
  • “Local Shadow Buffering”. You can slightly increase performance if you have at least 16 gigabytes of RAM. Otherwise, turn it off.
  • “Buffering shadows from the sun”. Similar to the previous option.
  • “Particle Lighting”. The effect of this setting on image quality is hard to see, especially in the heat of battle. And FPS eats off. Therefore, it is better to set it to a minimum.
  1. “DirectX Ray Tracing”. Gives better shading. But it only works fast on GeForce RTX video cards. Therefore, most players are better off turning off.
  2. “Backlight Shading”. diffuse shading. Adds additional shadows at the joints and in the recesses, making the picture more natural. Without diffuse shading, objects may appear overexposed or hovering in the air. Turn on at least the effect on static objects.
  3. “Screen Space Reflections (SSR)”. Turn on at least low qualityto make glossy and metallic surfaces stand out more from the rest.

Settings in the NVIDIA Panel

If you have a GeForce video card, then a number of settings should also be adjusted in the NVIDIA panel settings. To get started, right-click on an empty part of the desktop and select “NVIDIA Control Panel” from the menu bar.

The first step is to make sure that the correct refresh rate and color dynamic range are set. Go to the “Change resolution” section in the left part of the window and select the maximum available screen refresh rate (by default, even eSports monitors are sometimes set to 60 ). Then switch the output dynamic range to full – this will display more shades of colors.

Next, go to the advanced 3D settings section:

In the global settings, you can leave the default settings or reset to default using the “Restore” button. And it is better to set up for each game separately. In our case, you need to go to the “Software Settings” tab and select the Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2019 setup program (Warzone was created based on the 2019 game):

Next, we will analyze all the parameters available for configuration:

  • “CUDA – GPUs”. If you have several NVIDIA video cards, then here you can choose which one to perform CUDA calculations on. But in most cases, the most powerful one has already been chosen – it’s better to leave it that way.
  • “Anisotropic Filtering”. Set it to 4Xfor a slight increase in performance without a noticeable loss in quality, or select “Control by application” to apply the setting from the game itself.
  • “Vertical sync pulse”. If you have a monitor that supports G-Sync or FreeSync, then you should completely turn off the vertical sync (sync). In most other cases, the Fast option is best – it will remove screen tearing without increasing input lag.
  • “GP Rendering OpenGL”. The setting is similar to the first parameter – leave the option with the most powerful video card.
  • “Prearranged Virtual Reality Footage”. This setting only affects the VR mode (although it is not in the game). Your best bet is to select “Use 3D Application Setting”.
  • “Max. frame frequency”. It is better to configure this parameter in the game itself (see the previous chapter), and turn off the restriction here.
  • “Max. background app frame rate”. Similar to the previous option.
  • “Stream optimization”. If in the global parameters here you should set the universal mode to “Auto”, then in the settings of our particular game it is better to fully enable streaming optimization. This will allow you to use all the CPU cores.
  • ” Preferred Refresh Rate”. Of course – “Highest Available” so that the monitor is used to its fullest.
  • “Low Latency Mode”. Useful setting for games without NVIDIA Reflex support. And Call of Duty: Warzone has built-in support, so it’s best to turn it off.
  • “Power management mode”. It is unlikely that you are going to save electricity by playing a modern online shooter with a technological picture. Therefore, the only reasonable option is “Maximum performance mode is preferred”.
  • Smoothing – gamma correction. Gamma correction for at least some modern video cards is not at all burdensome. Therefore, you can turn it on, so the picture will become a little more pleasant, and the FPS will remain the same.
  • “Smoothing – Transparency”. But this is already a resource-intensive task – it is better to turn it off. Admiring the smooth edges of translucent objects is definitely not what you will be doing in a network shooter.
  • “Smoothing – mode”. Mostly used in old and other games where there is no acceptable anti-aliasing. In our case, it is better to select “Control from the application.”
  • “Monitor Technology”. If you have a weak processor and cannot afford to enable NVIDIA Reflex (in the game itself), then it is better to select “Fixed refresh rate” here – this will reduce the input lag. And to remove image tearing, set “Fast” in the “Vertical Sync” parameter (see above). If you have a powerful processor, then after enabling “G-Sync Support” here, be sure to enable NVIDIA Reflex as well.
  • “Triple buffering”. Applies only to applications running on the OpenGL API. In our case (Warzone runs on DirectX 12), you need to turn it off.
  • “Texture filtering – anisotropic optimization”. Anisotropic filtering optimization. On relatively modern hardware, it does nothing and may cause some objects to flicker. Better off.
  • “Texture filtering – quality.” Leave the default value “Quality”.
  • “Texture filtering – negative UD deviation”. Select the Anchor option to eliminate possible image artifacts.
  • “Texture filtering – trilinear optimization”. Same as Texture Filtering – Anisotropic Optimization.

Additional system optimization for Call of Duty: Warzone

It is also worth tidying up the operating system and the PC itself in order to eliminate all possible friezes and lags for reasons beyond the control of the game.

Update ALL drivers

Not only for the video card, but also for the motherboard chipset, network card, and sound. In addition, you can look for the latest BIOS firmware on the computer or motherboard manufacturer’s website.

Do RAM tuning

For many games, the standard “factory” DDR4 values \u200b\u200bmay be enough, but there are also many who love fast “RAM”. And if you are still sitting on DDR3, then overclocking RAM for new products is simply necessary for you. But it is not necessary to do this manually – at least enable one of the XMP profiles in the BIOS (we wrote how to do this here ).

Move the game to an SSD

Any open world and online games run much better on solid state drives. Call of Duty: Warzone falls under both definitions at once. In such cases, buying a 240 GB solid-state drive for 2-3 thousand rubles will give even more than buying an expensive processor, eliminating most of the performance micro-problems.

Defragment your hard drive

If the game is still installed on the HDD. This at least slightly compensates for his slowness. And when you get an SSD, it’s better not to defragment it at all.

Free up 20 gigabytes on your SSD with the game

Otherwise, the system will start to work noticeably slower with a solid state drive, which will especially affect games. Try using Disk Cleanup (Start > Windows Administrative Tools), also activating the system file cleanup mode. You can delete absolutely all data from the list.

Reduce your ping

If the response of the provider’s server (ping of the Internet itself) is higher than 1 millisecond over the cable, change the provider. Wireless Internet is not suitable for online games at all.

Turn off the Discord overlay

Few people use it, and processor and even video card resources are wasted, which is especially noticeable on a weak PC.

Disable mouse pointer acceleration

This is a useful feature for touchpads, but not normal mice. And in shooters, it would rather interfere with aiming. You can turn off the increase in speed as you approach the edge of the screen in the mouse options in the Control Panel.

That’s all. Write in the comments if you have any questions about setting up graphics in Call of Duty: Warzone or if you have technical problems with the game – we will try to help you!
