Baldur’s Gate 3 satellite guide

The location of each companion in BG3, their role in the squad, characteristics, and advice on how to improve relations with them

In Baldur’s Gate 3, you will meet several characters who can travel with your hero. Where can I find them? Read in our guide.

Note . In the early access build, when creating a character, you cannot select a ready-made hero (one of the companions), however, albeit inactive, there are buttons, which means that in the release version of the game one of the potential companions can turn into the main character.

How to form a squad

Your group in the game consists of four heroes, and one of them is the main character. Thus, you can choose only three companions who will travel with you throughout the game. The rest of the invited characters will be waiting for the hero in the camp. And you can swap them. You can only get approval or disapproval, improve or worsen relations with those characters that are in the squad. That is, if you do not want to worsen relations with Shadowwhart, but you need to do something contrary to her wishes, in this case it will be more profitable to leave her in the camp, perform the action, and then return to your squad.

Note . The developers of Baldur’s Gate 3 have confirmed that you will have the opportunity to romance with literally every companion. However, this feature is not supported in the early version of the game.

Shadowwhart

Shadowwhart is possibly the first companion to join you during Baldur’s Gate 3. It is noteworthy that it is Shadowwhart that you will see inside the capsule on the illithid ship. If you try to help her, she will remember this, and will express her humble gratitude when you meet on the island.

Where to Find Shadowwhart : After completing the game’s prologue and escaping from the crashed Illithid ship, head north across the beach until you find a warrior pounding a decorated door with her fists. Approach her and talk to find out her name – Shadowwhart. Invite her to team up, with the result that the girl will agree to go on a journey to retrieve the parasite.

Shadowwhart characteristics :

  • Race: half-elf
  • Class: priest
  • Strength: 14
  • Dexterity: 9
  • Stamina: 13
  • Intelligence: 10
  • Wisdom: 16
  • Charisma: 14

Shadowhart’s Companion Quest :

Each companion in Baldur’s Gate 3 has a personal mission. It develops as you progress through the storyline. For Shadowwhart, such a quest is “Daughter of Darkness”.

What she approves :

  • Once at the camp, tell her that finding a healer is your first priority.
  • In a conversation with Hex inside the cave of the druid’s grove, show him the warrior technique (requires the Warrior class).
  • Kill the parasite outside the Druid’s Grove.
  • Convince Owbir not to kill you in his cave.
  • Tell Scratch (the dog) that he can come to your camp if his friend never wakes up.
  • Decline the invitation of the Devil, who offers to extract the parasite.
  • Get the Rookie Crusher to kiss your foot in the goblin camp.

What she disapproves of :

  • Joining Laezelle with your party after convincing the tieflings to let her go. Or an attack on tieflings.
  • Agreeing to help Will rescue refugees from the druid’s grove camp.
  • If you tell Aunt Ethel in the druid’s grove that you have a parasite in your head.
  • Attempts to persuade the goblin guards before entering the goblin camp.
  • Help Aunt Ethel when she collides with Jol and Demir.
  • If you decide to smear manure on your face after Guard Olak asks you to.

Gail

Gail is another companion who will join you as you progress through Baldur’s Gate 3.

Where to find Gale: You can hire him literally at the very beginning of the game, after completing the prologue on the illithid ship. When you pass through the destroyed illithid ship and find yourself next to the altar of wanderings “Cliffs by the Road”, a man will appear directly from the teleporter. Just get closer to him. A dialogue will immediately begin, and you will have the opportunity to invite him to your squad. It turns out there is a parasite in Gale’s head as well.

Gale’s characteristics :

  • Race: Human
  • Class: wizard
  • Strength: 9
  • Dexterity: 14
  • Stamina: 15
  • Intelligence: 16
  • Wisdom: 11
  • Charisma: 13

Gail’s Companion Quest :

Each companion in Baldur’s Gate 3 has a personal mission. It develops as you progress through the storyline. Gale’s quest is Waterdeep Wizards.

What he approves :

  • Convince Roland to stay in the druid’s grove.
  • Consent to help Will rescue the refugees from the druid’s camp.
  • Demonstration of combat skills to Hex from the cave in the druid’s camp, but only if your character is a warrior.
  • Say the druids were overreacting to the conversation with Marikko and Loku in the druid’s grove.
  • Defeat the parasite outside the Druid’s Grove.
  • Convince Owbir not to kill you in his cave.
  • Tell Scratch (the dog) that he can come to your camp if his master does not come to his senses.
  • Consent to help Zevlor.
  • Get the Rookie Crusher to kiss your foot in the goblin camp.

What he disapproves of :

  • Joining Laezelle with your party after convincing the tieflings to let her go. Or an attack on tieflings.
  • If you decide to smear manure on your face after Guard Olak asks you to.

Astarion

Astarion is another companion who will join you during the passage of Baldur’s Gate 3. It is noteworthy that he is not just a high elf, but also a vampire.

Where to find Astarion : At the very beginning of the game, as in the case of Gale and Shadowheart. Depending on where you go first, Astarion may be the first, second, or third companion found. Or maybe the fourth! Look for the man southwest of the Cliffs by the road, near the wreckage of an illithid ship that crashed onto the beach.
