Alphanumeric keypad; Function of each of the keys

The alphanumeric keyboard: It is similar to the keyboard of the typewriter. It has all the keys of the alphabet, the ten decimal digits and the punctuation and accent signs.

Numeric keyboard : On the right you have a set of 16 keys (“Numeric Key Pad”) that includes the numerical characters from 0 to 9; the +/- signs; decimal point; Multiplication and number and scroll keys. This set was included for management applications that require large amounts of numerical data to be entered.

Some keys on the numeric keypad have a dual use, which is controlled by the action of a special Num lock number lock key. The first use corresponds to the numbers 0 to 9, it is the so-called numerical mode. The second corresponds to the cursor control keys: Home (7); Up arrow (8); PgUp (9); Left arrow (4); Right arrow (6); End (1); Down arrow (2), and PgDn (3). This dual-use provision for the separate keypad has been maintained in successive versions.

In addition to the previous one, the keyboard has two other states of use that can be blocked by means of the action of specific keys: May lock (“Caps lock”) and After lock (“Scroll lock”).

It uses a unidirectional communication protocol, so it does not accept configuration or check commands from the motherboard, all the signals have the keypad address.

Function Keys: These keys, from F1 to F12, serve as “shortcuts” to access more quickly certain functions assigned by the different programs. in general, the F1 key is associated with the help offered by the different programs, that is, pressing it opens the help screen for the program currently in use.

* F1: It is used to open the help window of the application that we are using

* F2: Pressing this key when we have selected a file, gives us the possibility to change its name

* F3: Open the search menu of a good number of programs

* F4: In Internet Explorer it is used to display the address bar and see the pages that we have visited lately. Likewise, and if we press it in combination with the ‘Alt’ key, we can close an application

* F5: Screen refresh. Especially useful when browsing

* F6: It is used to move with the keyboard between the various menus of a program

* F7: In Firefox, it allows you to freely move the cursor using the keyboard.

* F8: If we press this key when turning on the computer we will enter the safe mode

* F9: Lacks any functionality in Windows

* F10: Used to access the main navigation bar of almost all programs

* F11: Maximize the browser window

Control Keys: If we are using a word processor, it serves to end a paragraph and move to a new line. If we are entering data, it is normally used to confirm the data we have just entered and move on to the next one. These keys are used to move the cursor in the direction indicated by each arrow. Used to move the cursor back to the left, simultaneously deleting the characters. If we are writing in lowercase, when pressing this key simultaneously with a letter, the latter will remain in uppercase, and vice versa, if we are writing in uppercase, the letter will be lowercase. It is the tab key. In a word processor it serves to vertically align both text and numbers. This key allows you to insert a character so that everything we write next will be sandwiched between what we already have written. Sets the alphabetical keyboard in uppercase. When pressing it, we can see that, in the upper corner of the keyboard, the light will turn on with the [Blog Shift] or [Caps Lock] indicator. While the keyboard is set to uppercase, pressing a letter key will automatically set it to uppercase. to deactivate it, just press it again. The toggle key, like the control key, is used to make combinations and thus achieve different actions depending on the program we are using. In a word processor it is used to delete the character located to the right of the cursor.

Capital key that is used to press it and without releasing it, write one or more letters with the other hand, in capital letters and when we release it, all will appear in lowercase (for example to write Carlos, we would press this key and without releasing it, press the ” C ”, then we release it and write the rest“ arlos ”) .- You see that in the photo“ Shift ”appears but in most keyboards only the arrow comes in. -It is one of the duplicate keys for convenience, as you will see that it is also to the right of this alphanumeric block that we see.

ALT: The toggle key, like the control key, is used to make combinations and thus achieve different actions depending on the program we are using. The use that is normally given is to access the menus of any program. For example, look at the word menus, where it says File, Edition, View, etc., if you see them? Well, look at each word of these, one letter is underlined, ok? Well now press and hold the ALT key and now press the menu letter you want. ALT + A and the FILE menu will open.

CONTROL: The control key is used in combination with other keys to activate different options depending on the program being used. For example, in Word sustained CTRL and the letter A would be used, and it will allow us to open a document or CTRL + G and it will allow us to save the document, or CTRL + N and it will allow us to make bold what we have selected. This varies according to the program.

TAB: It is the tab key. In a word processor it serves to vertically align both text and numbers. Or leave a certain space between word and word. It is also used when we are in a form or dialog box, to move from box to box.

For example, press and hold the CTRL key and without releasing it, press A, this will bring up the open document dialog box. Well now press the TAB key and you will see that it turns blue at the bottom where it says FILE TYPE, if you press the TAB key again, the CANCEL button will appear a small dotted box, around the word cancel and if you press TAB again will go to another option

The escape key: Esc was created by Bob Bemer. It is labeled Esc or Escape and is generally used to generate the escape character of the ASCII code, the number of which is 27. This character is generally used to generate an escape sequence. It is normally located in the upper left corner of the keyboards. Its use is continuous for small Microsoft Windows dialog boxes, in which it is equivalent to responses such as: No , Remove , Exit , Cancel , or Abort. Interestingly, the escape key does not close the windows, for this you have to use the key combination Alt + F4. As an exception, we can mention the search window in the Windows 98 operating system environment, which is activated with the F3 key.

The most common use today for the escape key is used as a stop button ( Stop ). Many browsers like Microsoft Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox include this feature. An alternative to the escape key is its Unicode representation (U + 238B,?).

Delete key: (delete key, delete key, delete key, del key). Key found on computer keyboards, which is generally abbreviated as “Del” or “Del”, which is used to delete something. It is usually found twice on the keyboard, varying its position depending on its brand and type. In text editors, the Delete key deletes the next character from the current cursor position (unlike the backspace key, which deletes the character before the cursor position). The Delete key is also used to delete an object. determined in a program. For example, in a file browser, delete one or more selected files.

Insert key (Insert key, Ins key, insert key). Key on computer keyboards, mainly used to switch between two modes of text input from the keyboard. To switch between both modes, just press the INS key. One of the modes (insert mode) inserts the text that is written directly from where the cursor is located. The other mode (overwrite mode), when typing, the inserted text replaces the text that follows the cursor.

Definition of Home Key (Home key). Key found on typical computer keyboards, which works as opposed to the End key (End key). In text editors for Windows and Linux, the Home key or Start key is mainly used to return the cursor to the beginning of the line where the cursor is located. When the text is not editable, the Home key is used to return to the beginning of the document (this can also be done in editable texts, if CTRL + Home Key is pressed). For example, on a web page (not editable), if we We are in the middle of the document, pressing the Home key will return to the beginning of the document (moving the vertical scroll bar up).

It is the ” Spacebar ” key, and the largest on the keyboard that is easily distinguished at the bottom.-As in a typewriter, it serves to give a space to separate one word from another.

Key that you see here as “Caps Lock” in English, but that in most keyboards it already appears as “ Caps Lock ” and that as its name indicates is useful so that when you press it, everything that is written from then on will appear in uppercase.- To retype in lowercase, press again.- It is known when it is activated because on the right of the keyboard a little green light comes on that says “Caps Lock”.

Key ” Enter ” or also called “Return”; It is easy to distinguish because it is also quite large and is always in the same position to the right and centered on the alphanumeric keyboard.-It is used to execute something, for example to jump to the next line in a text and sometimes it appears only with the arrow you see, without the legend “Enter”, but it is easily distinguished by its shape.

Windows keys (left and right); they are called like this because they are on both sides of the space bar, they have the same effect (it is a duplicate key). If the taskbar is visible, open the start menu; If it is not visible, for example because a program has used the full screen (which is usually the case with installation programs), it makes it appear.
