5 Initial Process of Managing Texts in Publishing to Becoming a Book

When we read a book in a bookstore or library, did you know that the book must go through a fairly rigorous evaluation to be worthy of being used as a reading for book lovers?

For those of you who don’t know yet about how the initial process of developing a manuscript in publishing to become a book, then the following is a long process:

  1. Writing

A script will be written by the author or author first. The author will write a script that matches the theme requested by the publishing house. For writers who already have a contract with publishing, usually the writer will be given a deadline or a certain deadline.

With the deadline, the writer must be able to finish the script before the time is up. Deadline is useful to prevent the script from being worked on for too long so that the theme that was carried has passed the current trend.

If the author cannot complete the writing of the manuscript in accordance with the allotted time, then the issuing party can terminate the contract or provide an agreed mutually extended time.

  1. The manuscript is taken to the editor

The manuscript that has been completed will then be submitted to the editor. Why should you go to the editor first? This is because there is no perfect script. Every raw text will always have weaknesses and shortcomings.

With the editor, the script will be more perfect because the editor will correct any errors contained in the script. Starting from checking letters, spaces, until every word used.

The editor will try to display the perfect script before the manuscript goes into the meeting for publication. With the editor, the writer will be easier in correcting the manuscript to be better and worth reading.

  1. Editorial meeting

The manuscript that has been filtered earlier will then be continued into the editorial meeting. This is where the fate of a manuscript is at stake. The editorial meeting will discuss every detail of a manuscript.

They will judge whether the manuscript is suitable for publication or not, whether the manuscript has a high sale value or not, and many other assessments that will determine whether or not the manuscript is printed. The editorial meeting was held very tightly because it was related to the behavior or not of the manuscript when it was dumped on the market.

If the manuscript discussed is found to be unfit for publication, the manuscript will be returned to the author directly. The author will get a statement about the reasons for the rejection of the author’s writing. Besides getting an explanation letter, the writer will also get the script back. The return of the manuscript is done because the manuscript is not the property of publishing.

However, if the manuscript is suitable for publication, the manuscript will be returned to the editor to be refined in accordance with the contents of the previous editorial meeting. The manuscript will be re-adjusted to the existing provisions so that it can become a text that does not disappoint.

  1. Negotiations

The next step that becomes the initial process of developing a manuscript in publishing before becoming a book is, if the manuscript has successfully passed the feasibility test is negotiation. The publisher through the editor will negotiate with the author about the royalties they will get.

Besides discussing royalties, editors and writers will also discuss the layout or appearance of the manuscript to be printed. Adjustments to the manuscript were made again so that the manuscript became more comfortable to read.

In this negotiation, a publishing agreement will also be made, the contents of which will bind both parties, the writer and the publication so that they have a legal umbrella and are not detrimental to each other.

  1. Printing

If everything is suitable, then the finished and perfect manuscript will be continued to printing by publishing. Here the manuscript will be mass printed into a book that has a sale value. After printing, the book will immediately be distributed to the public.

The distribution of books is done by directly distributing books to consumers or distributing them to agents or bookstores. If the number of books printed is quite large, a book agent is needed so that the distribution of books is more evenly distributed.

That was the initial process of developing manuscripts in publishing. So long, right? Therefore, we should respect every book that has been published. How to appreciate the results of this work is not difficult that is only by buying the original book and not taking part in copying books without permission.
