20 keyboard shortcuts for Windows that will make your life easier

Surely you already know the trick of Ctrl + C to copy and Ctrl + V to paste. These are probably the two most used shortcuts on any operating system and are essential for any computer work. But don’t you know how to take a full screen capture, or search a web page?

  1. Return to Desktop: Windows + D displays the desktop and minimizes all open windows.
  2. Open Explorer:Windows + E opens Windows File Explorer.
  3. Lock computer: Windows + L locks the session on the computer.
  4. New Folder: Ctrl + Shift + N creates a new folder in File Explorer.
  5. Select All– Ctrl + A selects all content in an open document or file.
  6. Open the security menu: Ctrl + Alt + Del Opens the Windows security menu, from where you can lock the computer, log off, switch users or open the task manager.
  7. Undo: Ctrl + Z undoes the last action performed.
  8. Save: Ctrl + S saves the active document you are working on.
  9. Run a command or program: Press Windows + R to open a run window in Windows and launch any command or open an app.
  10. New tab or window: Ctrl + T to open a new tab in the web browser and Ctrl + N to open a new window.
  11. Switch between tabs or windows: Ctrl + Tab to switch between tabs in the web browser and Alt + Tab to switch between open windows.
  12. Close window or tab: Alt + F4 to close the current window and Ctrl + W to close the current tab in the web browser.
  13. Search system or a web page: Ctrl + F to search the current web page or an open document. Windows + S to search the system.
  14. Open Task Manager: Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open the task manager in Windows.
  15. Open Start Menu: Windows + X to open the Start menu in Windows 10.
  16. Open the search bar: Windows + S to open the search bar in Windows 10.
  17. Recover closed tab: Ctrl + Shift + T reopens the closed tab in the web browser.
  18. Close Window: Alt + F4 closes the active window.
  19. Take a screenshot: Windows + PrintScreen to take a full screen shot and Alt + PrintScreen to take a screenshot of the current window.
  20. Open Windows Settings: Windows + I to open Windows Settings in Windows 10.
