What is Windows registry?

In this article we will try to tell you what the Windows system registry is in a language accessible to both a novice user and an experienced one.
So the windows system registry is a “bag” of data, which is filled with information (information) about the settings and configuration of the operating system. Those. all settings of users, windows and its interface and work (the system determines by these settings: what needs to be launched at startup, what should be started at certain keystrokes and mouse clicks. Hence the system registry is a set of instructions.

For all Windows operating systems, the system registry is almost the same and has several sections:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT – contains data on file types (data in this section is needed when opening files by double-clicking or drag-and-drop operations.)
HKKEY_CURRENT_USER – personal settings of the user who logs in in windows (start menu interface and desktop, documents).
HKEY_USER – settings that are the same for all users.
HKEY_CURRENT_CONFIG – Hardware data used at system startup (loading the correct drivers for your computer).
When installing driversand programs, new entries are created in the system registry. When you uninstall programs, drivers and applications, these entries, as a rule, are not all deleted, which leads to an increase in the windows registry with entries that are not needed. This leads to long boot times and sometimes system crashes. To prevent and speed up system loading, it is imperative to clean the system registry.
When working with the system registry, be sure to make a Windows restore point. It’s worth going into the registry if necessary, but if you don’t know better, don’t touch anything. For auto registry cleaning, you can use the following programs:   AusLogics BoostSpeed and CCleaner
