WhatsApp: what are temporary messages and how to send them

We explain all the basics about temporary or private WhatsApp messages that disappear automatically in 24 hours or up to 90 days.

Perhaps many have no idea, but WhatsApp has temporary and private messages that are automatically deleted after a short time. Today we are going to share all the basic details to start using them.

WhatsApp is to this day one of the most popular mobile messaging applications on the planet. But the curious thing is that it has some functions that some are unaware of.

More striking is this curious dynamic where other platforms in the same field, such as Telegram, implement some functions that prove to be quite practical and useful.

So as soon as they demonstrate their functionality there with the competition, everything becomes a mere matter of time for Meta to develop its own version of those same novelties that sooner or later end up reaching WhatsApp.

A perfect example of this is the update that finally made it possible to send and receive temporary private messages with the ability to automatically delete themselves after a certain period of time.

This function has been operating within the messaging app for some time, but the reality is that many are unaware of exactly how it is used. And we’re going to fix that right now.

How to send temporary messages that are automatically deleted in WhatsApp

It’s ironic, but the official WhatsApp site has a frequently asked questions section , unknown to many, where multiple tips and tutorials are included to guide us through the different functions of the application.

In fact, there is a section dedicated exclusively to temporary or private messages where they show us the basic steps for sending them.

Broadly speaking, temporary messages are an optional feature that can be activated in WhatsApp to have more privacy, since each text sent can be automatically deleted after a period of 24 hours, 7 days or 90 days.

To activate them, it is only necessary to go to our conversation with the contact with whom we want to activate the function.

We tap on the three vertical points in the upper right corner and choose the Temporary Messages option.

There the list of options will be loaded where we can choose the periodicity detailed above. We choose the marked period of time and that’s it, the messages from that moment will be deleted in the marked time.

You can even turn temporary messages on by default for all new one-on-one chats.

You just have to open WhatsApp, go to the Settings or Configuration section. Then, enter Privacy, look for the Default Duration section and select a duration.
