What should I do if the C drive space is insufficient?

The C drive is used as the partition for installing the operating system. Make sure that the C drive has enough free space. If the C drive space is insufficient, it will affect the running speed of the system. In addition, insufficient space will prevent the system from being installed locally. So how to expand or clean up the C drive? Next, I will introduce to you in detail how to expand and clean up due to insufficient disk space.

The obvious disadvantage of insufficient space on the C drive is that it affects the operation of the system. Usually, insufficient space on the C drive is caused by the following aspects: How to clean up the c drive when it turns red? Recommend several tools to clear the c drive space and clean the c drive special method

✬ The  partition capacity of the C drive is too small. When leaving the factory, the space allocated to the C drive by the installation personnel is too small, which can easily lead to insufficient space on the C drive.
✬  C drive junk files and temporary files are not cleaned up. If the computer is used for a long time, if it is not cleaned up, the system will generate a lot of temporary files, and the C drive will become smaller and smaller. At this time, we need to clean it up.
✬ Infrequently  installed software is too much. If a lot of software is installed on the computer, these software usually take up a lot of space, so you can selectively uninstall some less commonly used software to free up space.

Method 1. Use Disk Management to expand C drive space

The built-in disk management of Windows system can help you manage your disk, including expanding volume, shrinking volume, formatting partition, etc. Windows 10 partitions can be expanded through Disk Management, but you must first delete adjacent partitions before using  the ” Extend Volume ” function in ” Disk Management “.

  1. Press the key combination WIN+Ron the keyboard , enter “diskmgmt.msc”and press Enter to open the disk management, as shown in the following figure;
  2. Find and delete the partition to be merged. For example, to merge D drive into C drive, you need to delete D. Right-click on D and select Delete Volume,as shown in the image below;
  3. After the deletion is complete, right-click the partition you want to merge into and select the ” Extend Volume” option, as shown in the following figure;
  4. Follow the Extend Volume wizard and accept the default options to merge the two partitions in Windows 10, as shown in the image below;

You may have discovered the disadvantages of using Disk Manager. It requires the merged unallocated space to be adjacent to the partition you want to operate before you can use the extended volume function. Otherwise, you can only expand the C drive by deleting the adjacent partition. Next, we will use Partition Assistant to solve the problem of insufficient space on C drive.

Method 2. Use Partition Assistant to expand C drive

  4. In ” Files to delete“, check the items to be deleted, and click the ” OK” button below to start disk cleanup , as shown in the figure below;

Method 4. Uninstall unimportant programs

In addition to using the above methods, you can also try to use the ” Remove Programs ” function of the control panel to uninstall some unused programs, so that you can free up some space for use.

  1. Enter ” Control Panel”  in the search box on the Windows 10 taskbar , and then click ” Open” , as shown in the following figure;
