What is the LOST.DIR folder on SD cards in Android?

Mobile devices have a large number of options, services and tools that facilitate their use in the best possible way, these are part of our day to day to the point that in some way, they are simply indispensable when being at work , in our house, taking a walk, traveling somewhere and much more.

These contain an endless number of implements that are of vital importance for the correct operation of the terminal. Some of them we may not be able to see easily, but we have no doubt that without them mobile devices would not be what they are now and we would not be able to perform any of the tasks and actions that we execute on our mobile.

These implements are present in all devices of all operating systems, some much more customizable and modifiable than others .

Based on this clarification we can properly say that in an operating system such as iOS these modifications of which we speak are not possible, by itself, we will not be able to see these implements either.

Therefore, we have to clarify an important factor , these tools and implements are only relatively visible and modifiable on mobile devices with Android system . But why? simple. Android presents a much more open system than iOS, therefore it is possible that changes of all kinds can be made.

Having understood all that has been said previously, we can denote an important quality within our Android terminals , we have the ability to see the internal and external folders of the mobile device, either from the system itself to the factory-installed applications. With a file manager we can see all this.

Some of these folders have strange names and perhaps we did not understand their functionality, today we want to tell you about a specific one, which has caused a bit of a stir among users of terminals with Android systems. Next we will tell you what the LOST.DIR folder is and what its purpose is within the mobile system.

What is the LOST.DIR folder and what is it for?

This folder is usually known to be visible on Android devices, to be even more specific, on the SD cards which are added to these terminals. Because this folder is located on the SD card, it is very likely that we will only be able to find or view it either while on our computer or by opening a file manager.

These file managers are applications that usually come from the factory with our respective mobile , but lately many new devices have too simple file managers that do not allow many options when searching for folders. In the worst case, some mobiles don’t come with a file explorer.

Therefore, the best thing we can do if we want to find the LOST.DIR folder from the mobile is to download a file manager from the Play Store or from an alternative or third-party market .

There is a wide variety of file managers of considerable quality, but within that list we recommend Es File Explorer and File Manager by Xiaomi .

The main purpose of the LOST.DIR folder is to save corrupted files, usually multimedia, which at some point have been cut or “damaged” due to some problem with the phone. Like for example, that it turns off right at the moment you take a photo or make a video.

If this happens to us at some point these files will be saved automatically in the LOST.DIR folder but with a somewhat unfavorable characteristic. They will no longer be in the original format. To be able to modify this we will only have to enter our manager and look for the respective folder to rename the file correctly.

What would happen if I delete the LOST.DIR folder?

As we said earlier, all cut or damaged corrupt files are stored here. In the event that by mistake we delete this folder from our mobile device we will no longer have any type of backup of that content. Therefore we will lose it.

Therefore, it is important to take into account if there is an important file in this folder, in order to save it .
