THE HISTORY OF NEUROLINGUISTIC PROGRAMMING

Around 1970, in California, at the University of Santa Cruz, Richard Bandler and John Grinder came together with one purpose: to understand why some people get incredible results in a certain area, while others, not even with much effort and training, achieve the same result and high performance.

They started their studies by comparing people who suffered from various types of problems with those who had healed.

And they discovered a great emotional difference between the states shown by the two groups: while the first thought about the object of his fear as if he were experiencing the same circumstances again, the second, no.

That is, the way people face a certain circumstance makes a big difference in the way they experience life.

THE MODELING

The main activity of NLP is modeling, which is the process of extracting and replicating the language structure and behavioral patterns of an individual who is excellent in a certain area of life.

Grinder and Bandler began their search for NLP by modeling three people, Virginia Satir, Fritz Perls and Milton Erickson.

These geniuses were highlighted as professional agents of transformation, working in the field of therapy. All three geniuses, Satir, Perls and Erickson, performed their magic from a perspective of unconscious excellence.

Therapists did not show Grinder and Bandler a conscious description of their behavior. Modelers (Bandler and Grinder) unconsciously absorbed what was inherent in therapists and then provided a description.

With a shallow knowledge of each of the therapists’ specialties and little knowledge of the field of psychotherapy as a whole, Grinder and Bandler, for two years, began with enthusiasm to explain selected parts of the behavior of the brilliant therapists.

They codified the results of their work in language-based models, using the patterns of transformational grammar as descriptive vocabulary. Through NLP “Modelagem” Grinder and Bandler highlighted the tacit skills of geniuses and that was when NLP emerged.

In 1975, Bandler and Grinder presented the first two NLP models to the world in the volumes “Structure of Magic I and II”.

The volumes that were published by the respected publisher “Science and Behavior Books inc” put NLP on the map and interest in the field of NLP spread very quickly.

People related to the areas of communication and behavior, for example, sought to learn how they could also achieve surprising results when carrying out the work of change.

Grinder and Bandler voluntarily offered training courses in the application of their models. The training courses held by Bandler and Grinder – proved that NLP models were transferable to other people, meaning that students could successfully use NLP models in their own work.

WHAT IS NEUROLINGUISTIC PROGRAMMING?

NLP is the practice of understanding how we organize our thoughts, feelings, languages and behaviors to produce the results we produce.

NLP provides people with a tool to model geniuses and leaders who have achieved high performance. NLP also serves as a tool for personal development and business success.

A key element of NLP is that we build our internal mental maps of the world based on how we filter and perceive information absorbed from the world by the five senses.

PROGRAMMING

The behavioral response that occurs as a result of neurological filtering processes and the subsequent linguistic map.

NEURO

Each human being has created their own unique mental filtering system to process the millions of bits of data that are absorbed by the senses.

Our first mental map of the world consists of internal images, sounds, tactile awareness, internal sensations, tastes and smells that are formed as a result of the neurological filtering process. The first mind map is called ‘First Access’ in NLP.

LINGUISTICS

We then assign personal meaning to information received from the outside world. We form our second mental map, assigning language to images, sounds and internal feelings, tastes and smells, thus forming everyday conscious awareness. The second mind map is called the Linguistic Map (sometimes known as Linguistic Representation)

POPULAR NLP TECHNIQUES

PREDICATES

Their first discovery was that Satir corresponded to his predicates (verbs, adverbs and adjectives to those of his clients without being aware of it. Some clients used visual predicates mainly, while others used auditory or kinesthetic predicates. This led to the proposition that for anyone , one of the senses (seeing, hearing or feeling) is more valued and is reflected in the words he selects. When Satir combined his words with the predicates used by his clients, clients realized that Satir understood them. relationship, which made their interventions more acceptable.

EYE ACCESS TIPS

Then, Grinder and Bandler discovered  clues to accessing the eyes,  which are eye movements, can indicate whether someone is using images, words and sounds or feelings when thinking, remembering or learning.

For example, when a right-handed person looks to the left, he is probably remembering visual images.

Subsequently, Grinder and Bandler, after studying Milton Erickson, refined the linguistic patterns used by therapists to effectively influence people’s behavior.

PILLARS OF NLP

These are the four pillars (foundations) of neurolinguistic programming

RAPPORT

NLP offers an important gift for building relationships with other people. Rapport can be described as a quick connection to other people. Creating relationships creates trust in others. Rapport can be built quickly by understanding the sport’s preferences, tips and predicates for accessing the eyes.

SENSORY AWARENESS

Sometimes, when you enter someone’s home, you notice that the colors, smells and sounds are subtly different from yours. Neurolinguistic programming allows you to notice that your world is much richer when you deliberately pay full attention to your senses.

RESULT OF THOUGHT

One result is your goal to do something. Result connects to thinking about what you want, instead of getting stuck in a negative way of thinking. The principles of the results approach can help you make the best decisions and choices.

BEHAVIORAL FLEXIBILITY

Behavioral flexibility means being able to do something different if the way you are doing it is currently not working. Being flexible is an essential aspect of NLP practice. Learning NLP helps you find new perspectives and incorporate these habits into your repertoire.
