What is Amazon Household?

Amazon Household is a way to share the benefits of Amazon Prime and digital content with others in your family. And all at no additional cost.

Prime benefits you can share include free Prime delivery, access to Prime Video, access to Prime Reading, and early access to Lightning Deals.

You can also share digital content like ebooks, audiobooks, apps and games. In addition to managing parental controls for the youngest members of the family.

How to create an Amazonian family

To create an Amazon family you just need to add someone to your family. Be it an adult, a teenager or a child.

How to add an adult to your Amazon family

Adding another adult to your amazon family comes with a whole host of benefits.

If you have a Prime account, it allows another person in your home to take advantage of your Prime benefits, including Prime delivery and early access to Lightning Deals.

Amazon photos and album sharing can be used by the person you add, and it also lets you share digital content if you set up a Family Library. This means that audiobooks and ebooks, apps and games can be shared between two people.

To add an adult to your Amazon Household account, you’ll need to follow these steps.

  1. Log into your Amazon account.
  2. In My Account, go to Buying & Rental Programs> Amazon Household (alternatively, follow this link to the Amazon Household home page ).
  3. Enter the details of the adult you wish to add and confirm. An e-mail invitation will be sent, which the other adult must accept.

How to add a teenager (13-17 years old) to your Amazon family

While it doesn’t offer the same benefits of adding another adult to your amazon family, giving a teenager access is a great way to make older kids feel more independent. Anyone who adds between the ages of 13-17 can have their own Amazon access for shopping or streaming content, and you can also set spending limits or review purchases.

It also allows teens you add to enjoy select Prime benefits, including Prime delivery, early access to deals, and free Prime Video. Adding a teenager to your account is quick and easy:

  1. Log into your Amazon account.
  2. In My Account, go to Buying & Rental Programs> Amazon Household (alternatively, follow this link to the Amazon Household page ).
  3. Select Add Teenager.
  4. Fill in their details and confirm. An email invitation will be sent, which your child will need to accept.

Once everything has been confirmed, you can edit their profile and change order approvals. This will allow you to skip or select approval steps or even set spending limits for pre-approval. You will also receive detailed notifications for each order, so you can choose to cancel or return any item.

How to add a child (12 or less) to your Amazon family

There are also unique benefits to adding children aged 12 and younger to your Amazon family.

They can access digital content via your Amazon account, but you can also set parental controls to make sure they don’t see anything unsuitable. Each added child can have their own educational goals, and you can also set time limits for how long they can play or watch.

To add a younger child to your account, here’s what you need to do.

  1. Log into your Amazon account.
  2. In My Account, go to Buying & Rental Programs> Amazon Household (alternatively, follow this link to the Amazon Household page ).
  3. Select Add Child.
  4. Fill in their details.
  5. Select a profile icon.

How to remove someone from the Amazon family

The process for removing someone from your Amazon family is almost exactly the same for adults, teens, and children. Log into your Amazon account, then go to Your Account . From here go to Buying and Rental Programs> Amazon Household (or go directly to the Amazon Household page ).

On this page, if you remove an adult, click Remove under the name and confirm. For teens and children, select Edit under their name, then select Remove child / teenager from family .

Is it worth creating an Amazonian family?

There is a big caveat to keep in mind when starting an Amazonian family. If for any reason you remove an adult, you must wait 180 days before adding another so you will not be able to share the benefits on a rolling basis with your friends.

Outside of this, however, the benefits of creating an Amazonian family speak for themselves. Whether you’re looking to save money by sharing a Prime membership with another adult or just want your kids to enjoy their independence, it’s worth looking into.
