Types of birds

Birds are a type of vertebrate animals that are characterized by staying on their hind limbs and having wings, with which they fly in the vast majority of cases. Also, the birds have their bodies covered with feathers and have developed a conical beak without teeth. Another of their characteristics is that they are oviparous animals. That is, its gestation occurs inside an egg. Birds are believed to have come from dinosaurs, currently living all over the globe, including the seas. Among other traits, birds are also distinguished by their specific behaviors: forms of mating, migrations, nest formation, feeding of young and association in groups of different sizes. What’s more,
Obviously, birds have been very helpful to humans, either as pets but mainly as a source of food. Today, the most popular case is that of chickens, which are highly consumed worldwide. For its part, the classification of these animals is usually broad and complex, based on different anatomical characteristics. That is why the taxonomy or classification of birds is something that is usually of interest only to specialists.

Types of birds:

Struthioniformes: this type of bird is characterized by its large size and because it does not fly, despite having feathers and wings. Therefore, its movement occurs on its legs, which are very resistant and powerful. Many species of this type are currently missing. Of course, the best example in this regard is the ostrich.

Types of birds

Tinamiformes: they are generally small birds that cannot fly or that, at least, do not reach outstanding heights. Therefore, they are running birds very similar to the European partridge.

Galloanserae: within this group are the birds that are consumed by humans as food. As its name makes clear, within this group we can therefore name roosters, hens, ducks, turkeys, pheasants, quails and geese.

Anseriformes: these types of birds are characterized by the fact that they have developed anatomical and physiological features that allow them to live on the surface of bodies of fresh water. For example, we can mention geese, swans or geese.

Podicipediformes: they are also aquatic birds that usually dive into the water to obtain their food. Generally they are gregarious animals that fly little or that require a great effort to reach a more or less significant height of flight.

Phoenicopteriformes: this type of bird is composed of only one species. These are what are commonly called flamingos or flamingos.

Columbiformes: these types of birds are those that we know as passive and even poultry birds. Therefore, within this group of birds are pigeons, turtle doves and others with similar shapes. Also included were some species that have now disappeared, such as the dodo.

Apodiform: this group is made up of birds that are characterized by having very small and short limbs, legs. They are also birds of the same size. The best example of this type of bird with hummingbirds.

Gruiformes: these types of birds make up a very large group mainly due to the fact that there are very marked physical differences between their members. Among the birds that make up this group we can mention the crane.

Sphenisciformes: this type of bird inhabits only the southern hemisphere, especially in regions with a high latitude. That is, in areas that are very close to the South Pole. Birds of this type do not fly. A clear example in this regard are penguins.

Accipitriformes: this group is made up of diurnal birds of prey. Among their characteristics is that they are large and carnivorous birds, that they have an extremely strong and curved beak, that they use their strong claws to catch and kill their prey, and that they have very good vision although a weak sense of smell. Obviously, within this type of bird is the eagle.

Piciformes: these types of birds are generally insectivorous, that is, they eat insects, but also other foods such as fruit. They are birds that inhabit trees or in relatively high places. Among the best known birds of this type we have toucans and woodpeckers.
