Types of Advertising

There are nine types of advertising;

National Advertising

Trade and Industrial Advertising

Trade advertising is employed by the producers and distributors of branded and nonbranded consumer goods in order to reach the retailers and wholesalers of consumer goods. Industrial goods such as steel, machinery, lubricants, packaging etc. Media and language can be used nation-wide or regionally depending on the degree of geographic concentration of the industry involved.

Institutional Advertising

Such advertisement are confined to institutions e.g. PIA., Bata, Philips, etc.

Professional Advertising

Producers and distributors here depend on professional men to recommend, prescribe, or specify their products to buyers. Purchasing items are baby foods, building materials, text books, and medicine. These concern doctors, engineers and educators etc.

Public Service Advertising

Counter Advertising

One of the most controversial types of advertising is counter-ads, advertising directed against a product or service. Counter ads directed against specific products are rarely seen on national scale. Advocates of counter advertising claim that standard advertising does not make intelligent buying decisions. Counter ads are therefore necessary to contract some of the allegedly unwarranted claims found in standard advertising.
