TIPS FOR LEARNING TO READ

One of the first challenges that we face in our children’s school years is to teach them to read. Because, although many parents want to give this task to the teachers, the truth is that in order for our child to learn to read faster and become fond of literature, it is best that we support these moments of reading also at home. But how to help your children learn to read?

The first thing is to explain to your children that reading means giving yourself time . What better way to nourish yourself and enjoy reading a good book? What better way to travel and to give ourselves time is there? None!

The second thing is that we have to take into account that at home there must be a  shelves with books within reach of their hand, so that they can see them, touch them and browse them whenever they want. It is essential that they are familiar with the books so that they want to read them for themselves.

Next, they need to choose the book they want to read. If you force them to read stories that don’t interest or bore them, they will be reluctant to learn. Therefore, it is important that you take them to a library or bookstore and that they are the ones who choose the books they want to read. But if they can’t make up their minds or are not with you at the time, a good option is to buy stories starring movie characters that they see, so they are already familiar with the story and the characters.

Steps to teach reading

  1. It begins with books with many illustrations and few letters, and then progresses to books with pictures and letters joined by forming syllables. Finally, pictures with one or two words, always very repeated.
  2. Logically, to start learning to read at least the child has to know the alphabet or at least recognize the letters. Let them know what letter each one is, because once they know them they can then phonetically combine them by reading syllables.
  3. To achieve this, start by teaching them the capital letters, as they are more straight, have less ornaments and are separated from each other and therefore are easier to remember. As the last thing we want is for the child to tire of learning, the most logical thing is to make it as easy as possible for them and to increase their level based on their desire to continue learning.

Other ways to learn to read

  • Another way for your child to read is that you take advantage of each advertising or establishment poster so that the child identifies the letters and even reads them. This will spark a great interest in him trying to read every poster he sees in his path.
  • You will also encourage their desire to read by putting pictures and movies in other languages and with subtitles. This way, they will make an effort to read them if they want to know what the movie is about, although for this step they already have to have a little practice.

When they can read …

And even if your little one already knows how to read, don’t lose the habit of telling him stories, as he can understand and understand more difficult and complex stories than he can read. To do this, he uses funny voices and imitates the sound of animals and inviting him to pay attention to the images, in this way the child will get excited about the story.

And now that he can read, the time has come to teach him to drive himself at school. Take note of the following tips to help your child study.
