The modal verb “should

When is it used?

It is used for advice ( you should do this, you should not do that) and also for probability (The train should arrive at 10).

 

How is it used?

Affirmative

Subject +  should + verb
You should study  harder.

Note: it does not change for the third person singular: She should study harder .

Negative

Subject shouldn’t  + verb
You shouldn’t eat that muffin.

Interrogative

For the interrogation we usually use it with the verb to think .

Do you think

+ subject

+  should + verb
Do you think they should  do that?
