From the new Mass Effect to Dragon Age
In 2019, Microsoft chose The Game Awards ceremony to show for the first time what the Xbox Series X will look like.In 2020, we were not presented with such impressive surprises and the long-awaited The Elden Ring was not shown, although they were not left without news either. Among the “world premieres” promised by the organizers were traditionally both announcements of previously secret projects and trailers revealing various aspects of games already presented to gamers. Mass effect
One of the main events of The Game Awards is a teaser for a new RPG from the Mass Effect series. As far as can be judged from the trailer, the game will tell about the events that take place after the confrontation with the Reapers, shown in the original trilogy. The gameplay, alas, has not yet been shown.
Dragon age
It’s the same story with Dragon Age (whose executive producer Mark Darrah recently left Bioware) – there is no gameplay in the fresh trailer, but there are few hints of the plot. It has long been known that Solas, one of the protagonist’s companions in Dragon Age: Inquisition, will play an important role in what is happening, but now there is a hint that Varric, one of the longtime heroes of the series, will also take part in the events (he reads the voiceover). The main role will be given to a completely new character, and the main place of action will be the Tevinter empire, where magicians still rule.
Perfect dark
The Perfect Dark series of shooters from Rare has resurrected (the first part was the ideological successor to the famous Goldeneye 007 for the Nintendo 64). The new part, “a thriller about a secret agent showing the not so distant future”, will be made by The Initiative studio, which opened in 2018 in Santa Monica and belongs to Microsoft. Whether this will be a reboot of the first Perfect Dark or an entirely original game remains to be seen. The release date is also unknown.
Back 4 blood
The Turtle Rock Studios team used to make Evolve, and some of them worked on the original Left 4 Dead. Now in her plans – a multiplayer shooter Back 4 Blood about fights with zombies, including giant creatures that cannot be killed alone. The game will be released on June 22, 2021 on consoles and PC, the alpha test starts on December 17.
The callisto protocol
Dead Space creator Glen Schofield, head of studio Striking Distance, announced that he and his colleagues are working on a story-driven sci-fi horror. Players will need to escape from prison on Callisto, the moon of Jupiter. The project has been in development for over a year, the team has over 100 people, and they want to make “the worst game for PC and consoles.”

A remake of the action RPG Nier: Replicant will be able to boast of improved battles compared to the original – this is what the fresh trailer suggests. The game will be released in the spring – on April 23, 2021, it will become available for PS4. Xbox One and PC. Producer Yosuke Saito, however, refuses to call it a remake and stubbornly calls it “renewal” – they say, hence the numbers in the title.
Nier: Replicant was initially available only in Japan – in Europe, a version of Nier: Gestalt was released with an older hero, which, as the authors believed, would be more popular with Western gamers.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Hood: Outlaws and Legends
The multiplayer competitive action about robbers operating in a conventionally medieval world has received a release date – early access will open from May 7, 2021, and from May 10, everyone will be able to compete for treasures.
Warhammer 40K: Darktide
The creators of Vermintide showed what the gameplay of Darktide – their new co-op shooter for four participants – will look like (spoiler: very similar to Vermintide).
Open roads
Annapurna Interactive, the studio behind Gone Home and Tacoma, is busy with the next game. It is expected that this will be half a story about road adventures, half a detective: the heroines are trying to find out what their deceased grandmother had to do with the theft of jewelry and what exactly opens the key that they found among her things.
Disco Elysium The Final Cut
In March 2021, an improved edition of the Disco Elysium role-playing game will become available – including new quests (the owners of the original will receive the update for free) and full voice acting for all characters. In addition, the PS5 Collector’s Edition will be released. And localization into Russian is just around the corner – work on it is in full swing .
