Tanacetum parthenium – For headache prophylaxis

Tanacetum parthenium, or Feverfew, is a medicinal plant native to Asia Minor and Southeast Europe, applied in the prophylaxis of migraine. Even though it is of European origin, it is well adapted in South and North America and in Northeast Africa. Local records mention the use of its flowers and leaves, orally and locally, in the home treatment of various ailments such as headaches, colic, worms, rheumatism, gastric discomfort, diarrhea and cramps.

Properties:

It inhibits platelet release of serotonin and is useful in prophylaxis of migraine and symptoms associated with attacks such as nausea and vomiting.

Indications:

– Migraine prophylaxis (migraine);

– Reduction in the severity of migraine (migraine) episodes and symptoms associated with crises such as nausea and vomiting;

– Arthritis.

 

Contains: Tanacetum 100mg

30 capsules

Dosage: Take 1 to 2 capsules daily.

 

The suspension of preventive medication should be done gradually and begin after four to six months of success, as evidenced by the decrease in the frequency, intensity and duration of crises.

 

Contraindications:

In individuals with hypersensitivity to the plant and to other members of the Asteraceae family such as Camomile, Santiago Herb or Yarrow. It should not be used by individuals who have a contact allergy to the plant. Never use during pregnancy and lactation. Discontinue use for at least 2 weeks before any surgical procedure due to an increased risk of bleeding. Use not recommended in children under 12 years.

 

Drug interaction with:

It can decrease the rate of hepatic metabolization of some drugs, especially linked to some enzymatic complexes of cytochrome P450, and it can alter the bioavailability of drugs such as: amitriptyline, haloperidol, wavesentrone, propranolol, theophylline, verapamil, omeprazole, lansoprazole, pantoprazole, diazepam, carisool , nelfinavir, diclofenac, ibuprofen, meloxicam, piroxicam, celecoxib, warfarin, glipizide, losartan, lovastatin, ketoconazole, itraconazole, fexofenadine and triazolam.
