Squats, also known as  squats , are a very common lower body exercise that you can find in most training plans. If done correctly, they can greatly benefit your fitness. But many people do not exercise correctly.

During childhood, we are experts in doing squats or squats , but as we grow, motor skills change and we tend to adopt a more sedentary lifestyle due to the many hours we spend in a chair , so we tend to make mistakes when we perform exercises like squats.

But it is important to know how to  squat correctly, as some studies show that there is a basic form of squatting that decreases the risk of injury and contributes positively to fitness progress. (1) Squats   are  “fundamental movements necessary to improve athletic performance, reduce risk of injury, and contribute to lifelong physical activity.”

How can you tell if you’re squatting correctly?

Squats done right…

  • strengthen the legs, buttocks and many other muscles
  • improve lower body mobility and athletic performance (2)
  • keep bones and joints in good condition

Bad squats…

  • they do not activate the muscles at the right intensity
  • put additional stress on ligaments and joints
  • increase the risk of injury

HOW TO SQUAT CORRECTLY

The squat or squat is a lower body exercise whose movement is an essential part of daily activities such as sitting down and getting up. (3)   It can be done using just your own body weight, without adding any additional resistance, or using specific materials such as weights or bars.

This exercise primarily targets the thighs (quadriceps and hamstrings) and glutes ,  but also works core strength and stability, ankle mobility, and back muscles, among others.

The most common reasons people make mistakes when doing squats include muscle weakness, muscle tightness, and joint instability or immobility. If you find yourself making mistakes, practice your  squats using the tips below and work on strengthening your lower body.
