Square kilometer

square kilometer is the unit of area that corresponds to a square of one kilometer on each side. Equivalent to a million square meters . In the SI it is symbolized with km² . As it is not an abbreviation but an international symbol, it does not admit a period , capitalization , or plural (see spelling rules for SI symbols ).
