SEFT Therapy To Reduce Student Anxiety

The exam is a success parameter that can be measured for the learning process in students. The types of exams given can be divided into 3 types, namely oral exams, written exams, and practical exams. Each exam has a different level of difficulty.

Anxiety Facing Trials

Everyone certainly has anxieties. Anxiety is a response shown by individuals when facing problems, including students in the school environment. Anxiety can trigger students to take creative actions.

At a moderate level of anxiety, individual perceptions focus more on things that are important at that time and ignore other things.

At the level of heavy / high anxiety, individual perceptions decrease, only think of small things and ignore others, so that individuals cannot think calmly (Tresna, 2011).

The phenomenon of being very anxious in facing exams on students, of course, can hinder the learning goals that students want to achieve. Examination anxiety is triggered by uncontrolled thoughts, feelings and motor behavior. Uncontrolled cognitive manifestations cause the mind to become tense, uncontrolled affective manifestations result in feelings of bad things happening, and uncontrolled motor behavior causes students to become nervous and tremble when facing exams, especially final semester exams (Tresna, 2011)

Anxiety is a signal that alerts and warns of a threat that threatens and allows someone to take action to overcome the threat (Kaplanet.al., 2010).

Anxiety is a state of feeling characterized by strong negative effects and symptoms that appear where a person anticipates that there is danger or misfortune that will arise at a later date and is responded to with great concern (Durandet.al., 2006).

Anxiety is a psychological problem that is indicated by an attitude of worrying about something that is perceived by individuals as unfavorable. Anxiety is a kind of anxiety, worry and fear of something that is not clear (Armasari et.al., 2012).

Anxiety is a natural disorder characterized by deep and continuous feelings of fear or worry, does not experience interference in assessing reality (Reality Testing Ability), personality is still intact (does not experience personality cracks), 9 behaviors can be disturbed but within normal limits (Hawari, 2011).

SEFT Therapy (Spiritual Emotional Freedom Technique)

The first SEFT was developed from EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique), a needleless version of acupuncture based on a finding that there is a relationship between energy flow in the body and emotions with health problems ranging from emotional, health and performance problems (Zainuddin, 2009).

EFT uses elements of Cognitive Therapy and Exposure Therapy, and combines them with acupressure, in the form of finger tips pressing on 12 acupuncture points.

More than 20 clinical trials published in pre-reviewed medical and psychology journals have shown that EFT is effective for phobias, anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, pain, and other problems (Gary, 2012).

How to do SEFT

How to do SEFT consists of 3 steps, namely:

  • The set-up

In this first step, it aims to ensure that the body’s energy is directed appropriately. This step is done by neutralizing spontaneous negative thoughts or negative subconscious beliefs by saying a prayer with full feeling to Allah SWT that whatever the problems you are experiencing at this time.

  • The tune-in

The way to do the tune-in is by feeling the pain that is experienced, then directing the mind to the place of pain, saying a prayer sincerely and surrendering to Allah SWT.

  • The tapping

Tapping is tapping lightly with 2 fingertips at specific points on the body while continuing to tune-in. These points are the keys of The Major Energy Meridians that will neutralize emotional disturbances or pain.

Benefits of SEFT

According to Ahmad Faiz Zainudin (2009) SEFT has many benefits in various fields, namely:

  • Individuals, SEFT can overcome and free various personal problems and can develop self-potential optimally so that it leads to a better direction to become a complete human being.
  • Family, In this field, SEFT can be a tool to create strong and harmonious relationships and neutralize emotions that often arise in families.
  • Schools, the implementation of SEFT in the school environment can be used by teachers, students and students to solve problems related to education, for example, difficulty concentrating, anxiety, laziness to learn so that teaching and learning activities in the school or campus environment will be more effective and efficient.

SEFT Therapy To Reduce Student Anxiety

Introduction

In the fast-paced and highly competitive world we live in, it’s no surprise that students often find themselves under immense pressure and experiencing high levels of anxiety. The demands of academic success, social relationships, and future career prospects can be overwhelming for many students. However, there is a therapy method that has been gaining popularity and showing promising results in reducing student anxiety – SEFT therapy.

What is SEFT Therapy?

SEFT stands for the “Subconscious Emotional Freedom Technique.” It is a therapeutic intervention that combines elements from traditional psychotherapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and energy psychology. The primary goal of SEFT therapy is to help individuals alleviate emotional distress, reduce anxiety, and improve overall well-being.

How Does SEFT Therapy Work?

SEFT therapy works on the basis that emotional disturbances are caused by disruptions in the body’s energy system. By stimulating specific meridian points on the body while focusing on the distressing emotions or thoughts, SEFT aims to restore balance and release negative energy blockages. This process involves a combination of physical tapping and affirmations.

The Benefits of SEFT Therapy for Students

1. Reduced Anxiety Levels

One of the most significant benefits of SEFT therapy for students is a reduction in anxiety levels. The tapping and affirmation techniques used in SEFT can help students effectively manage stress and anxiety-related symptoms. By targeting the root causes of anxiety, SEFT therapy provides students with a powerful tool to alleviate their emotional distress and regain control over their thoughts and emotions.

2. Increased Focus and Concentration

High levels of anxiety can often impair a student’s ability to concentrate and focus on their studies. SEFT therapy can help students overcome these challenges by promoting relaxation and mental clarity. By reducing anxiety, students can improve their cognitive abilities and enhance their academic performance.

3. Improved Self-Esteem and Confidence

Student anxiety can be accompanied by feelings of self-doubt and low self-esteem. SEFT therapy works on addressing these underlying emotional issues and promotes a positive self-image. By tapping into their subconscious mind and releasing negative beliefs and self-limiting thoughts, students can develop a healthier sense of self-esteem and increased confidence in their abilities.

4. Effective Coping Mechanisms

SEFT therapy equips students with valuable coping mechanisms to deal with stress and anxiety. Through the practice of SEFT, students can learn to identify and manage their triggers, regulate their emotional responses, and develop effective problem-solving skills. These coping strategies can not only benefit students in their academic pursuits but also in their personal and professional lives.

Conclusion

SEFT therapy has emerged as a promising approach in reducing student anxiety and improving overall well-being. By focusing on the body’s energy system and combining tapping techniques with affirmations, SEFT therapy provides students with a powerful tool to manage their anxiety and overcome emotional challenges. With its numerous benefits, SEFT therapy offers a holistic and effective approach to support students in their journey towards personal and academic success.
