Origin of name

The Latin word rotulāre came to French as roulette and then derived, in our language , into roulette. This term refers to an element that rotates and is used in certain games of chance.

History

The origin of the game of roulette dates back to the 17th century . The French mathematician Blaise Pascal designed the primitive version of the game that we know today. The name of the game comes from the French word “roulette”, which means “small wheel”.

Game Features

The game consists of general lines in foreseeing in which number of the roulette the ball will be stopped and it will be thrown by the dealer inside it. The player must place his bets on the table mat of the game according to his presumption about which will be the winning number. All players will be able to place their bets at the beginning of each game until the dealer closes the betting round saying “No more.”

Popularity

Roulette is the most popular casino game in Europe . It is currently impossible to imagine a European casino without a table to play roulette. The popularity of the game originated in Monte Carlo from the 19th century when the Blanc brothers installed tables in the Monte Carlo casino to play. Part of the popularity of the game in Europe is due to the simplicity of the game rules. However, in America this game ranks number three, behind the game of blackjack and craps, in the list of casino games preferred by Americans .

Types of games

There are two types of game; the European roulette game, also known as French roulette, and the American roulette game. The roulette used at the tables of the European version of the game has 36 numbers, the numbers from 1 to 36, and the simple zero, ‘0’. The roulette used at the tables of the American version, in addition to the numbers that are present in the European version, from 1 to 36 and ‘0’, incorporates the double zero, ’00’. On the other hand, the two versions of the game differ in the arrangement of the numbers around the roulette wheel and in the design of the mat where the bets are placed.

Game rules

Roulette is played at the roulette table, where all possible outcomes are listed and where players place their bets based on the outcome they predict. The dealer spins the roulette wheel and throws the roulette ball on the wheel. The ball will eventually drop into a number and the winners of that particular round of roulette will be announced.

Objective of the game

Roulette is played against the casino and not against the other players. You have to predict where the roulette ball will land on the roulette wheel. The game offers different betting options: some offer high risk and high payouts; and others offer less risk, but the payments are lower.

How to play

When a roulette round begins, the first thing you should do is place your bets on the roulette table. The roulette wheel will spin and the ball will be thrown once everyone has placed their bets, but in many real casinos the wheel will be spun and just before the ball is thrown, the dealer will announce “no more bets” and will throw the ball on the wheel.

Once the ball has been thrown on the wheel, no player may add or change their bets. The wheel will slow down and you will see that the ball has landed in a box with a number. Once the winning number is announced, the winners will receive their pay according to the type of bet they have placed and a new round of the game will begin.

Types of bets at roulette

Roulette bets are divided into two main categories: inside bets and outside bets. The main difference between them is that inside bets have a lower probability of occurring, but offer big payouts to the winners; meanwhile, outside bets are more likely to occur and offer lower payouts.
Professional roulette players understand that it is better to make outside bets and win smaller amounts, rather than making inside bets that offer very tempting payouts, but where the chances of winning and high payouts are very low. Making smart outside bets ensures a longer gaming session, with winnings occurring more frequently.

The ‘En Prison’ rule: In some European roulette games and in French roulette games there is a special rule that only applies to even money bets. By making an even money bet and when the ball drops to zero, some casinos will allow the player to wager her original bet and place it in the next round, so that she will get two spins for the price of one. You can also withdraw the original bet and lose only 50% of what was bet on an unsuccessful bet.

The ‘La Partage’ rule : It is similar to the En Prison rule, but does not allow a bet to be taken for the next round, but only gives the option to refund half of the money that was put in an external par money bet. such as Red / Black, High / Low, Odd / Even and the result of the turn is zero.
