With this card, the company’s engineers presented the GF104 core as a standard-bearer for the second generation of NVIDIA Fermi and a key element in the development of powerful graphics cards at reasonable cost. The GF104 is smaller 317 mm 2 and less expensive than the GF100, the heart of the top of the 400 series range.

On the back we find the same ports as the base design; two dual link DVI ] and a mini HDMI connector capable of carrying audio and video over the HDMI 1.3a standard including Dolby TrueHD and DTS Master Audio ). On the front, two 6-pin connectors are responsible for providing power to the card, which has a declared TDP of 160W and needs a source of at least 450W, although a 550W source is recommended.

The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460 is pretty much the same as NVIDIA’s excellent reference design. In order to maintain a competitive price, no relevant improvements have been installed to improve heat dissipation, nor will we see the aesthetic concessions present in competing products. In the laboratory it attracted attention for its dimensions, more contained than those of other similar power proposals and that allow it to be mounted without problems on practically any type of chassis.

However, it was surprising at first that the clock frequencies at 885 MHz and memory 1005 MHz were higher than those presented by other integrators. As it was later verified in the tests that the card obtained outstanding results and was very stable. Detecting that temperature problems do not occur in any case, even by overclocking.


Like all 400 series, the NVDIA GeForce GTX 460 natively supports DirectX 11, Shader Model 5.0, and DirectCompute 5.0. NVIDIA’s proprietary technologies are also present, being compatible with CUDA , PhysX , NVIDIA 3D Vision and PureVideo .

Which its real performance with last generation video games is excellent. In addition, 3D Mark Vantage 1.2 was used as a synthetic test to have an objective reference of its potential and to obtain outstanding results again.
