Do Muslims Believe in Satan?

Muslims believe that the devil exists, to deny his existence is the same as to deny the Koran . The Devil, called Iblis or Shaitaan (Satan) in Islam, is a being among the Jinn, a separate species from the Angels, Humans and Animals.

It is a central belief in Islam that Iblis is not an Angel, since angels are not beings who have free will and, therefore, it is impossible to disobey God.

Among the Jinn, Iblis (Satan) was the most pious and just of all, in fact, he had reached a level so high that he was in the company of the Angels in heaven due to his piety, that was when Allah (God) created Adam, the first human being, that Iblis’ fall began.

As mentioned in the Qur’an, Allah decided to create the first human being, Adam, from clay. Once Allah made Adam’s torch, he was left for some time, during which Iblis came to look at him, as mentioned in a narration by Prophet Muhammad (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him):

“When Allah created Adam in Paradise, He left him as long as He wanted to leave him. So Iblis wandered around him to see what he really was and when Iblis found him hollow inside, he recognized that the new creature had been created with a disposition that is weak and would have no control over itself. ” [Muslim: 2611]

Once Adam was fully created, Allah ordered everyone in heaven to bow to Adam out of respect, not out of worship, in the way that Muslims prostrate themselves for Allah.

”And, in effect, we create you; then, we configure you; then we said to the angels, “Prostrate yourselves before Adam.” And they prostrated themselves, except for Iblis. He was not one of those who prostrated themselves. ” [Holy Quran 7:11]

As mentioned in the above verse, the command was given to everyone, including Iblis, who is mentioned together with the angels.

This verse often causes confusion among people who have no knowledge of the Arabic language, and in view of the translation it suggests that Satan was an angel instead of a Jinn, fitting in with Judeo-Christian theology.

Iblis refused to obey Allah’s command, the following verse tells us the reason why he didn’t bow.

“ALLAH SAID:” WHAT PREVENTED YOU FROM PROSTRATING YOURSELF WHEN I COMMANDED YOU? “SATAN SAID:“ I AM BETTER THAN HIM. YOU CREATED ME OUT OF FIRE AND YOU CREATED IT OUT OF CLAY. ” [HOLY QURAN 7:12]

Iblis was, in essence, the first racist to exist, this resulted from his immense arrogance and pride in who he was, which led to his downfall, described in the next verse.

Allah said: “So, get off him! And it is not acceptable for you to be superb in him. So leave, surely, you are of the humiliated! ” [Holy Quran 7:13]

God then punished Iblis by removing him from Paradise, citing arrogance as the reason and reminding Iblis that he was humiliated. Instead of regretting and regretting disobeying a direct command from Allah, Iblis chose to promote his violation against Allah, as described in the following four verses:

“Satan said:“ Give me a delay, until one day, when they will be resurrected. Allah said: “Certainly, you are of those who will be allowed to delay. Satan said: “Then, for the evil that you condemned me, I will, in truth, lie in wait for them on Your straight path. Next, I will approach them, before and behind them, and on their right and on their left, and you will not find most of them grateful. ” [Holy Quran 14-17]

It is clear from the above verses that Iblees did not regret what he did, and so he chose to continue his disobedience against Allah by asking for permission to have a truce until the Day of Judgment so that he could try to deceive as many humans as possible to prove to Allah that they they are a foolish and weak creation.

However, Allah warned Iblis about those who believe in Allah and worship Him only in the following verses:

He said, “My Lord! For the evil that you condemned me, in truth, I will make mistakes for them on earth, and I will make them all to incur evil, “Except Your favorite servants, among them.” Allah said: “This is a straight path, which is for Me to observe. [Holy Quran 15: 39-41]

As Allah mentioned, Satan will have no authority over people who believe in Allah and submit to Him. Thereafter Allah banished Iblis from heaven as mentioned in the following verse:

Allah said: “Get out of him, as abhorred, banished. From those who follow you, I will fill Geena with all of you. ” [Holy Quran 7:18]

The End of Satan

It is clearly mentioned in the Qur’an what the final destination of Iblis and his followers will be:

“And when the order is closed, Satan will say:“ Allah certainly promised you the true promise, and I promised you, but I failed you. And I had no power over you, except that I summoned you, and you listened to me. So don’t blame me, and blame yourselves. I am not your savior nor are you my saviors. Certainly, I deny that you had associated me with Allah before. ” Certainly, the unjust will suffer painful punishment. ” [Holy Quran 14:22]

He will reject them all and they will all be thrown into hellfire as a reward for their actions.

The Muslims are commanded to seek refuge in Allah from the Iblis of evil, he will not lose the chance to derail an individual in any way possible, and since it has been around since the beginning of the human race, he knows how we think and live , thus taking advantage of our weaknesses. In the Qur’an, he has many different titles, such as:

“THE SEDUCER” [HOLY QURAN 35: 5]

“THE ENEMY” [HOLY QURAN 35: 6]

“THE ARROGANT” [HOLY QURAN 38:74]

In short, Islam tells us everything we need to know about Satan, including his origins, his mission to alienate humanity from God and what the end and his followers will be. Muslims are repeatedly warned about the traps of Satan by Allah in the Quran, as in the following verse:

“O YOU WHO BELIEVE! ENTER PEACE, ALL OF YOU, AND DO NOT FOLLOW IN SATAN’S FOOTSTEPS. CERTAINLY, HE IS YOUR DECLARED ENEMY. ” [HOLY QURAN 2: 208]
